Seacom has restored service to commercial ISPs on alternate routes (14 October 2011)

Why? are they down again?

I thought they came back online yesterday according to Mweb?

The way I understand it, Seacom has restored Mweb and other ISPs on an alternative route - so Seacom is effectively back up for their business customers, just not through the primary route between Egypt and France.

Correct, and probably with less bandwidth than on the primary route.

I downloaded the Latest Kubuntu release yesterday and it came from TENET at full speed (4mbs), and ISP is Afrihost..

Huh? So who isn't restored yet?

I thought Seacom had nothing but commercial customers?

Or maybe TENET doesn't count as commercial?

Why did it take a week to implement a failover? After repeated failures in that area you would think the change to going via India would be pretty slick & quick by now...

Comercail ISP ? What are there ISP that are not commercial ? Are they charity ISP.
