so my ocz vertex 2 died last night, just restarted pc, and boom does not detect anymore, pc and laptop same thing tried achi and ide mode.

Anybody know shipping cost? probably need ship to them to get rma :(

seems to be normal thing that vertex 2 can die randomly , looking at the forum posts.

Last week Thursday I was looking at shipping a harddrive to the US (for work purposes) - PostNet gave me a quote between R900-R1100 .. and DHL was around R1200. This was for for standard little 160gig drive - with box and static packet etc it came to under 500grammes.

There might well be cheaper ways to get it there (few weeks via normal postage) - but they generally don't offer tracking, which I assume you might want

This is why it's a gamble to import things... If it works, you save big time but if something goes wrong, well, you're almost better off buying a new one.

aggr ya logged ticket with dhl asking for price, if that is price i will just buy a new one.

Surely that cannot be the case, seems ridiculously high and for that price they should offer tracking.

Importing is a risk and with ssd's so cheap here now it makes no sense importing. When i imported my ssd i couldn't find a 64gb for less than 10k here and i brought it in for 4k. Now the saving is so small it ain't worth it.

Yup good lesson for all to learn.

But try contacting OCZ as they might be willing to help. Not sure Joe their service is though.

Crossed wires here ... yeah DHL etc offers tracking - I was just saying there are cheaper ways to get it there, but those cheaper ways don't generally offer tracking ;) *gulps.more.coffee*

yip - my camera from New York - which was way bigger and heavier than a drive was under R700 for basically a 3 day shipping time from NY to CT ... seems it costs more to send things "up-hill" hehe

The cost attached to moving your shipment is ZAR 1,467.90

dhl is mad lol

F me that is crazy, it must be a SA thing, when i imported my first ssd the total cost for shipping was 40 dollars with tracking via dhl 5 day service from the US and they cleared it at customs for me, all i had to do was go collect and pay them the customs fee.

I send items quite often back to the USA - never with courier, though sometimes they have specials.

For eg if you go direct to Fedex you will get a cheaper rate for paying cash than if you phone or even have an account.

Usually I ship with regular registered airmail - it works quite well, and if you write on the box in nice and big faulty item for warranty return, the post office sticky fingers tend to leave the parcel alone, as they know its better to steal new shiny incoming than out going broken junk.

USPS is cool, they keep our local number and you can track the parcel on USPS.com. Most parcels arrive at the USA destination within a week and costs go from around R240 - R320 for average size parcel of around 0.5kg - 2kg.

ok cool seems need to go to taiwan , rather then the usa :P

sapo charged me R75, so send it off today, lady says i must phone if its not there in 10 days.

Hoping to get 120gig refund for the 100gig, if they don't stock the 100gig anymore:P

was about to tell u to try the post office

also got quoted R75 for a 200gram parcel to the states - 7-10 days with tracking no
