Samsung seeks iPhone 4S sales ban

South Korea’s Samsung Electronics said Monday it is trying to block the sale of Apple’s newest iPhone in Japan and Australia, escalating its legal battle with the US giant after several setbacks.
 
Classic, all I can do is laugh at tease two.

But to be honest while they fight amongst each other for whatever reason, the only people that lose is us the end user, and the only winners will be the lawyers who gets fat paychecks.

The only reason Samsung is doing this is because Apple did it to them first. They even tried to get Apple to call it all off, but Apple just snubbed them.And the lawyers don't get fat paychecks they get their regular paychecks as they are just normal employees of the company so get a fixed salary.
 
So just because apple doesn't want to play nice the end user will ultimately "suffer".
THIS is why I don't think I'd ever support apple.
I think it'd be quite funny if Google/Motorola, Samsung and whoever else pulls together and patent-rape apple into oblivion.
This will eliminate all the bad "apples".
So...how do you like them "apples"?

Erm... Not so much... If the case is anything like the case Samsung brought against Apple in the Dutch courts, you know where they said Apple were infringing on their 3g patents and the court ruled AGAINST Samsung 'cos they weren't playing nicely with Apple as far as fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory license agreements go, then Samsung are on a hiding to nothing here.

I'm with Elimentals here, the lawyers are loving this while customers end up losing out.

Ever heard of performance bonus's?

Even the losing side wins, you really think every company would need the numbers of lawyers they use for this type of action. Trust me the lawyers win, and we the customers are paying them, not only with the cost of the phones but the lack of choice.

I know Apple started this round, but to be honest USPTO started it all.

Again, not sure if this is base on the same 3g patents as the Dutch case... Google "fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory" license agreements, also check out 3g industry standards and patent pooling. Then have a look at how Samsung were dealing with Apple in this regard. Bad form from Samsung, not Apple.
Apple has an issue with Samsung 'cos of the look and feel of some of their products and icons. A legitimate one IMO and I guess that means I'm going to be accused of being a fanboy now by so, so many "impartial" Android fans 'cos everyone knows, Android only has impartial fans.

Or it could force the manufacturers to be a little more innovative with their designs in which case the end user benefits...

I really think it's futile banning the sale of a product in a particular country. People keen enough will simply import it regardless of the potential warranty risks...

Problem is that to much of innovation cause its own set of problems as seen with people complaining about Metro in Windows 8. Also when is simple design a standard vs something unique.

Some things are just simpler because people copy designs like keyboard layouts or menu's in applications, even the simple [crtl] + [c] to cut and [ctrl] + [v] to paste. Most of today's standards did not start as such, hell even the way we drive a car was not a standard till manufacturers started coping each other.

Face it this "it's mine" attitude can break things just as much as it can build.
 
As a side note. About 10 times while doing something on my I9000 have people asked me is that an apple?

Personally, I am insulted by this. Is it just me? :D

While we on coping idea's

I am soooooooooo glad about iOS's notifications following the same swipe down action as Android.

I always found myself swiping my iPhone's top section when I wanted to check for messages, now at least I wont feel like a fool anymore when I do it.

I was so afraid that they where going to do something different when I 1st got word that they doing one.

That's not a standard. Macs use Apple-C and Apple-V. It is not that hard to come up with a different way of doing things.
And if something is vital to technology, then it legally needs to to be licenced under RAND conditions. Which is why this same lawsuit got dismissed in the Netherlands.
Creating tablets that look almost exactly like Apple's is just asking for trouble. There are many other design options they could have taken, but they didn't. They asked to licence Apple's patents, but since they are not vital to a standard, Apple chose not to licence them to Samsung. And they don't have to
 
Seems Samsung is copying Apples legal tactics now too . . .
 
From what I've read so far Samsung is not getting very far with their arguments and that Apple's cases are better presented. Samsung, the way I see it, is slowly sinking deeper into trouble. Why they wanted to settle in Australia ... and lost (as Apple knew would happen). The anti-Apple brigade can shout as loud as they want in support of Sammy but I think Sammy is more and more exposed in the courts to be what Apple says they are. To now try to block the 4S is not going to help Sammy in any way ... they are just throwing good money at bad lawyers.

Nah people are dumb sheep to marketing lol seriously people used to see my X10I and say hey is that an iphone?!!wtf they look very different......hell one or two people even asked me if my satio is an iphone!!!!!!:wtf:

As for this whole patents thing of look and feel....its just pathetic that the courts are even considering banning the samsung tab...i dont own a samsung or android RIGHT now,only a blackberry so unlike the last few posters that are always pro apple right now i'm neutral and I feel that apple is just pathetically trying to compete by eliminating the competition.
