Anybody know when the new iPhone 4S will be available in SA?
Hilton Tarrant posted by the "end of the month (two weeks time), which means by the end of October (part of the second wave of releases).
Is this true?

I'm also waiting for it, but I don't think we can trust any info until an official announcement by Vodacom & MTN (Not sure if Virgin, Cell C & 8ta are gonna sell iPhones)
But if anyone has heard any rumours, I'm always interested

MTN should have it just before xmas according to my sources

I popped into the iStore at Clearwater Mall this aft, and asked the guy when it will be available in SA. They appear to be totally clueless on the new iPhone 4S. The one guy didn't even know that it was released last Friday in the US and UK. According to the other guy, we will get it when Europe gets it. So I ask, "But the UK and France are in Europe and it is available there?" Response: "No, we will get it when Europe gets it."
Pardon my ignorance, but how many "Europes" are there?

According to Hilton Tarrant last Tuesday on Moneyweb (http://www.moneyweb.co.za/mw/view/mw/en/page292671?oid=553942&sn=2009 Detail), "The iPhone 4S will be available in the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan and the UK on Friday. It will launch in SA and a further 21 countries before the end of the month (only two-weeks later)."
So if he is correct, then it should land on our shores within the next two weeks.

Aki (of 702) mentioned possibly the end of November.

Love it when you go somewhere to buy something and the salesman knows less than you do....when the 4 came out some random at mtn told me it would have a pay in of 8k and then cost over a grand each month. Two weeks later vodacom released it on a top up for R360~ with no pay in. Till mtn and vodacom anounce it everthing else is just romours IMO

I went to the local MTN shop to find out about the availablity of the iPhone 4s. They said that they don't know about a 4s but they know for a fact that the iPhone 5 is going to be released soon. I tried vainly to argue but they sorted me out by showing me one of those fake iPhone 5 youtube videos. I finally convinced them to go to Apple.com and confirm what I was trying to say. They opened the site, saw that I was correct but still insisted that there's an iPhone 5 being released soon. I gave up and walked out.

Have a Vodacom and MTN upgrade lined up. Problem is there are so many good bundle deals out there not sure if the 4S will swing me from say a Samsung Galaxy S2 + Galaxy tab for R499. Deals are already coming out. iPhone 4S + iPad??? hmmmmm

iPhone 4S + iPad??? hmmmmm

That would be wonderful but unfortunately, cellcos are tied into very tight, binding agreements with the local Apple distributors. That's why 8ta cannot giveaway iPads on any of their contracts, - they instead give you a voucher (~R6,000) which you can use for any Apple product at an iStore, EXCEPT an iPhone. The 8ta execs spent a lot of time at Apple HO in the US trying to get rights to offer the iPhone and iPad on their contracts, and this was the only work-around they could come up with. And this is also why Vodacom and MTN cannot offer the iPad on contracts.
Let's hope all that changes soon though...

If they offered even a iPhone4 with old iPad said Network would make a killing. Off all the networks I'm sure 8ta would be the one's to do it. I'm sure one of the Networks are working on some good Apple deals for the Xmas season. Going to wait it out.

I'm guessing similar to when iPhone 4 came out, cheapest plan is like R380-400 for a phone with some minutes. Vodacom had a R250 for iPhone with no minutes, hopefully they do that again.
