Love it when you go somewhere to buy something and the salesman knows less than you do....when the 4 came out some random at mtn told me it would have a pay in of 8k and then cost over a grand each month. Two weeks later vodacom released it on a top up for R360~ with no pay in. Till mtn and vodacom anounce it everthing else is just romours IMOI popped into the iStore at Clearwater Mall this aft, and asked the guy when it will be available in SA. They appear to be totally clueless on the new iPhone 4S. The one guy didn't even know that it was released last Friday in the US and UK. According to the other guy, we will get it when Europe gets it. So I ask, "But the UK and France are in Europe and it is available there?" Response: "No, we will get it when Europe gets it."
Pardon my ignorance, but how many "Europes" are there?
According to Hilton Tarrant last Tuesday on Moneyweb (http://www.moneyweb.co.za/mw/view/mw/en/page292671?oid=553942&sn=2009 Detail), "The iPhone 4S will be available in the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan and the UK on Friday. It will launch in SA and a further 21 countries before the end of the month (only two-weeks later)."
So if he is correct, then it should land on our shores within the next two weeks.
?
iPhone 4S + iPad??? hmmmmm
That would be wonderful but unfortunately, cellcos are tied into very tight, binding agreements with the local Apple distributors. That's why 8ta cannot giveaway iPads on any of their contracts, - they instead give you a voucher (~R6,000) which you can use for any Apple product at an iStore, EXCEPT an iPhone. The 8ta execs spent a lot of time at Apple HO in the US trying to get rights to offer the iPhone and iPad on their contracts, and this was the only work-around they could come up with. And this is also why Vodacom and MTN cannot offer the iPad on contracts.
Let's hope all that changes soon though...
