Tickets go on sale for SA rugby’s biggest party of the year

Rugby fans will be able to watch a full day of high-octane international Sevens rugby from as little as R80 at South African rugby’s biggest party at Nelson Mandela Bay South Africa Sevens Tournament later this year.

Tickets went on sale today for the SA leg of the hugely popular international HSBC Sevens World Series tournament, which this year moves to an exciting new venue at the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium in Port Elizabeth.

The event takes place on December 9 and 10 and tickets are expected to sell fast for an event that in venues such as Wellington, New Zealand, sells out within minutes of the tickets going on sale. Ticket prices on Friday are: Upper Tier R80, Lower Tier R120, while premier seating on the Grand Stand costs R250. Prices for Saturday are: Upper Tier R100, Lower Tier R150 and Lower Tier (Premier Seating) R300.

“Rugby fans will be able to watch top-class, international Sevens rugby for as little as R80. This includes a full day’s action plus an exciting line-up of entertainment. Supporters will definitely get full value for their money,” said Andy Marinos, General Manager: Commercial and Marketing at SARU.

“The Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium offers superb viewing from just about every angle in the stadium and I am confident that with this modern, world-class facility we will soon establish this tournament as one of the premier events of the HSBC Sevens World Series.

“I would like to invite all rugby fans to come and join rugby’s biggest party on 9-10 December in Port Elizabeth. Book your ticket early to avoid disappointment,” said Marinos.

SARU launched ticket sales for this much-anticipated event at the iconic stadium in Port Elizabeth today. The launch was attended by current Springbok Sevens captain and coach, Kyle Brown and Paul Treu as well as several well-known Eastern Cape sports personalities; among them former Springbok Sevens captains and current EP Kings players, Mpho Mbiyozo and Mzwandile Stick, former Proteas cricket star Makhaya Ntini and Eastern Province Rugby President, Cheeky Watson.

South Africa will host the third leg of the hugely popular international HSBC Sevens World Series tournament in the brand new Nelson Mandela Bay stadium in the Friendly City.

The new Sevens season kicks off on 25-26 November at the Gold Coast in Australia, followed by the desert city of Dubai a week later.

Krishna Patel, Chairman of HSBC Africa, said Eastern Cape rugby supporters can expect a feast of exciting Sevens action. “Undoubtedly this marks a new phase in the development of the South African leg of the HSBC Sevens World Series. Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth is now the new location for this popular event and I am sure it will prove a worthy home for years to come. We look forward to the tournament and to welcome Sevens fans and teams from around the world to our shores for what will undoubtedly be another thrilling leg of the HSBC Sevens World Series.”
