Who to hate more, ICASA or Telkom

Hi

When I read info about ICASA they do nothing but dissapoint, they are supposed to be helping the people that are suffering under telkom but they just seem to draw drafts and waste peoples time by having hearings. A classic example would be the article:
"Telkom: ‘[ADSL] Draft Regulations may be unconstitutional’" and I quote the last paragraph:
"ICASA will schedule public hearings on the ADSL Draft Regulations later in the year, but a specific date has not been set yet. "

Cowering once more to Telkom, after all the information that was put forward in hearings it seems they want to hear more of Telkoms story.

So in otherwords we have 2 things...

A) ICASA who is supposed to be helping but just having fun in court and drawing drafts

B) Telkom who is operating as a business using all means possible to make cash.

Personally, I am now more agro with ICASA than telkom, telkom at least put into practice their statements that screw the customer over, ICASA places false hopes.
 
I think you are being really unfair. ICASA is a organisation that has to deal with pretty complex matters with many different organizations in pretty different fields.
They are not there just to protect the consumer at all costs. They have to find the balance between the companies legal interests, as well as the consumers interests.
A lot of what they do amounts to massive legal frameworks, which Telkoms lawyers impede

I think your anger is directed at the wrong party here

Now that this move has been made by telkom, (and ofcourse we hate them even more now)(is it really possible to hate telkom more every single time???) we atleast know where we stand.

Now the ball is in ICASA's court on getting done what needs to be done. If ICASA fails, then we would know who to hate more!

Its a sad state of affairs, but we have to go thru this
 
Much as I like to blame telkom, the true blame for our sorry state of affairs lies with the goverment and the DOC who allow telkom to be a monopoly protected by regulation.
Until this changes we will suffer.
 
I'd first go for DoC, Icasa, Gov. Telkom whilst many see them as the big problem, i still say it would not be a problem if the first 3 wanted to do something about it.

Its like complaining about the flu killing you when in fact if your immune system is not working, cause you got HiV. Right now Ivy, icasa, and gov is like HiV making, making us vunlverable to something that should not be hard to counter.

Telkom is just doing what EVER other company is their position would do. Try and make the most money they can, and keep investors happy. ICASA is f*cking useless, but remember all their members are assigned by goverment (how convenient for a organisation that is supposed to be independant).

If you want to be upset about the state of telecoms in South Africa, be upset at goverment and ANC. THEY are the ones, that are keeping this country from moving forward. They place who they want onthe ICASA board, and who they know wont cause many problems for them, after all, ANC has a huge stake in Telkom.
 
I think it is unfair to blame ICASA. Telkom has a legal department that rivals those of most medium, 1st world countries. As a result, they most likely spend months getting everything as airtight as possible, only to be shot down by a team of shar, er, lawyers :D
 
I agree – it might be unfair to blame ICASA. But at the end of the day if they can't do the job that they are meant to do, for what ever reason, they might as well cease to exist.

While I do not often point out typos ect, this one is funny.
"Seize" means to grab, while "cease" means to "stop". So, you meant ICASE should "cease to exist".

Why is that funny? Because Telkoms "seize(s) to exist" - ie. they grab all they can.

I did not mean to offend (if you were indeed offended). I too make spellos. Just thought it humerous when I read it. An inadvertant pun.

I dont hate ICASA, i hate the government who wont give it the power to do something about our situation, and of course.... telkom
 
yah, its funny that most sectors in SA have exactly the same problem as telecoms, ie a lax regulators, monopolies, and the consumer forking out cash.

Also if it were just telkom cashin in then mebbe gov etc is less accountable but cell companies have same problems as seen recently and icasa's never ending talks just makes them look they have no idea what they regulating, i mean how much input do they need? Everytime same arguments are brought up. The gov is also full of it, they give nice speaches about lowering costs asap and then the DoC(which is the gov too) draws out the process continually and openly admits to protection. How can you not hold them more accountable ? Telkom is a business, how many run business for non-profit ? They are though very protected wrt lawyers etc. But when you got the gov protecting you, you don;t really care who you impose on. which is what they do.

I'm guessing the adsl issues are only gonna be resolved when sno get access to local loop (rental) and/or essay is complete(bandwidth costs)

Definitely the DoC and government. We all hate Telkom but they are sort of playing to the rules the DoC and ICASA has set. If the market is opened up then we have no probs at all.
 
The market will never be opened up 100%. Telkom has to much power.
 
Hate Who

How can you hate goverment who doesn't give power to bla bla bla, goverment & gov official short of own telkom, so why give power to the one that might take your stolen money " that is what telkom does best for the ones who dowsn't know" Why not support a cause to make telkom & the goverment's life hell, or atleast apply pressure & spread the truth, how bad they really are. Short & sweet - get the facts, stay informed & spread the word.
