"Black Entertainment Satellite Television", what a name! I've seen the Botswana channels before and not much to watch ... I wonder what these guy's will broadcast and if they would have a Sci-Fi channel, I'll move immediately

The goverment is going to have break Multichoices hold on SA sport as that really is the drawcard for "most" SA Subscribers !
There is a channel in the states called BET or Black Entertainment Television. I have a lot of respect for the American model because they understand that there are inherently cultural differences that tend to (not exclusively) split down race lines.
This model can work but it won't hurt DSTV that much seeing as the bulk of its viewers are in South Africa and are white. I think if it is priced right it will have major uptake amongst black people and other African countries... Don't expect this to bring down DSTV's prices. If you are a whitey and don't like Hip Hop, R&B etc, you are going to pay.
It will be competing against DSTV's scaled down version that sells for under R200 IMO. It will focus on soccer and the likes. Very clever! I am personally looking into getting more access to European and American services not on DSTV. If I can get Channel 4, ITV, ABC, NBC, MSNBC, HBO, Comedy Central and TechTV here I would switch like a switch-blade!
