Dark Africa is not so dark after all

What lights? I only see a bright spot in Gauteng, and a bright strip in Egypt, everywhere else is still fairly dark :D
 
It looks to be like there are currently unfinished/scheduled undersea cables on that picture.

So I guess that's why they build the cables with so much extra capacity, so they can route other additional data through to other places. Such as SAex data from the Americas being carried through to India via Seacom.

Still Dark Africa
 
Sure, it's not dark on artificial, fancy schmancy CGI photos, but after having flown over it at night, I promise you Africa is dark, almost pitch black. There's vast stretches of civilization decreasing to Pietersburg, then a few points of light in Zimbabwe, then a small spot that is Livingstone, then utter blackness pretty much all the way up to the Libyan and Tunisian coastline.

Antarctic seems to be the dark continent now. For how long I wonder.

You realise that the maps from the article are not showing _actual_ lights

These images are really cool, wonder if there high res versions available? Would be a good background.
 
These are beautiful pictures.

As for dark... we're just doing our bit to stop global warming, not so? :D
