Online gambling to become legal in South Africa?

Yes legalise it and give us free promotional money to play poker with :D

Yup they banned it and then went to the sites and said look this is what we want. Yes boss.

Ok good we will legalize it again.
 
Anyone still playing online poker here? Or as anyone had any action taken against them from doing so?

They should legalise it. Why should online be illegal but at a casino not? It's the same activity, more or less.

Not really, the money stays here.
 
The whole point of the legalising gambling and having a controlling body was to ensure that the casinos played fair and that there are structures in place to avoid money laundering.

By allowing online gambling, there is now no way of identifying who the gambler is and therefore makes it very difficult should any illegal activity occur to track it down.

What I am I saying, our legal systems allows rapists and murderers out on R500 bail. So just allow online gambling.
 
Let the people gamble. Just make the companies declare who they pay winnings to. Tax the lot and let the people gamble.
Theeen you can tenderize and steal all you want from those funds!

Lets make it illegal, and now they'll try fix that monumental fracking mistake.... The mind boggles.
 
Piggs started advertising their casino on SA television. The Gambling committee then got SABC (or whoever) to stop broadcasting these adverts as it was in contravention of the Gambling Act (or something not 100% on this). Piggs then instituted the original claim to get their adverts re-instated. This lead to the original decision that their business was illegal, which Piggs then appealed to the Supreme Court. This has very little with the government wanting to get their hands on Piggs profits, until Piggs briught it to their attention.

Just to clarify IT WAS PIGGS PEAK CASINO THAT STARTED THE ACTION THAT GOT ONLINE GAMBLING BANNED NOT THE SA GOVERNMENT. IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN ILLEGAL IT JUST WASN'T ENFORCE UNTIL PIGGS CHALLENGED THE LEGALITY.

So will that mean you only get taxed on winnings? What about when you lose? Surely it should be the other way around then?
