Ambon Telkom gets bomb threat
AMBON, Maluku: A bomb threat by an unidentified caller caused panic among employees of state telecommunication company PT Telkom's Workers Cooperative Unit in Ambon on Monday.
An employee, Ade Tuhunena, received the call at noon from an man, who said that a bomb, which would explode in 15 minutes, had been placed in the office.
"From his accent, I'm sure he was not a local resident, but from outside Maluku," Ade told reporters
Police arrived and immediately cordoned off the area. After scouring the site for about 30 minutes, the bomb squad did not find anything suspicious and declared the area safe.
Ambon and Lease Islands Police chief, Adj. Sr. Comr. Leonidas Braksan, confirmed it was only a hoax.
He said the incident could be related to a terror case presently being tried at the Ambon District Court. "We still have to investigate further, but I'm sure the caller intended to create panic," said Braksan. -- JP
