Effective inexpensive or free number portability key to competition

I know that this is wishful thinking, but, why not implement IPv6?
everyone on the planet could then have a fixed IP, Telephone number and ID.

Seeing as we can’t get people in the same industry to agree we have no chance of getting this one passed. :(
 
Unless it's specifically legislated by govt or ICASA to be free/inexpensive I foresee every telco making number portability a major pain in the ass.

Ummmm.... have you seen how long and random an IPV6 address is? how're you going to remember yours or anyone elses phone number?
