6600 256MB or 6600GT 128MB?

A friend of mine, who unfortunatly still has an AGP based motherboard wants to upgrade his graphics card (from a FX5200) but doesnt want to spend much more than R1000. So, which one whould be better?

I know the 6600GT is faster, but wouldn't the extra RAM on the vanilla 6600 make it a bit better?

I would take the GT over the 256MB
 
I have used both cards, and am currently stuck with a vanilla 6600 256Mb wanting my 128Mb GT back.
The GT performance is far superior. Hands down - ignore the 256 straight and go GT.
 
Yea, too many people look only at the amount of ram on a G-card, its not really as important as the rest or the board.

I recently got myself a chaintech 6600 GT 128meg and I'm very happy with it.
 
Ok, I thought the 6600GT would better, will tell him later today.

He might buy it from the Netherlands, as he's going there within a week or so, but warrenties might be a problem, so Person, how long is your warranty on the Legend 6600GT AGP?
 
well it wouldnt cost 700 more if it wasnt better

256 meg on a card doesnt mean it will be great

tell him not to buy it there
if it breaks its gonna end up costing twice as much because he'll have to replace with a new one

buy electronics in south africa unless your 100% sure its never gonna break within the first 3 months - year

buy gigabyte cards
you get lekka 3 year warrenty but most suppliers dont tell ppl that :)

But he doesnt want to spend more than R1000 :(

Anyways, he's dutch and goes back to the netherlands at least twice a year, so I guess it doesnt really matter.

1.5 year, it also come form the Netherlands but warrenties are local as im a sub dealer.
