We, the youth of South Africa, the unemployed, marginalised, homeless, the economically downtrodden, and all of us who wish to have access to quality free education, housing, electricity, and sustainable livelihoods demand urgent economic freedom in our lifetime. Economic freedom in our lifetime means total achievement of Freedom Charter objectives, particularly on the transfer of wealth to the ownership of the people as a whole.

The Chamber of Mines is a recipient of Economic Freedom Mass Action because of its role in the history of racialised economic development of South Africa. This includes, but not limited to development of an exclusively white mining capital with massive influence and contribution to legislation that subjugated, excluded, oppressed and super-exploited blacks and Africans in the entire Mining value...........................

2. Local beneficiation and industrialisation of a minimum of 60% of the minerals extracted from beneath South Africa`s soil. The beneficiation should happen in the communities where Mining happens.

4. Betterment of working conditions in all Mines to prevent avoidable fatalities and diseases.

7. Local manufacturing of supplies and other necessities required for mining, including beneficiation and industrialisation.

8. Development of a concrete social and labour development model, which will ensure that communities around the Mines are developed out of the proceeds of Mining.

12. Compensation of Mining communities that continue to suffer diseases and infections as a result of Mining and minerals` extraction, particularly the asbestos communities.

I have to admit that the above points I totally agree with. The other points I don't agree with, especially point number "10.".

I would have liked the memorandum to have a point that deals with Acid Mine Drainage and that mining companies must pay for the damage they have caused to our environment over the century.

Those points I don't have an issue with..

BUT the opening statement about "exclusively white mining capital" is wrong, completely and utterly.. which in my opinion makes their memorandum meaningless. If the ANCYL is that clueless about the mining sector then they should just shut up.

If the YL shut up about everything they didn't have a clue about, or even bothered to inform themselves first it would get very quiet, very quickly.
 
I don't see a point number 10.

You get a point for effort though.

Although some of the grievances are valid, I am quite sure that this could all be a ploy for Malema to nationalize mines so that BEE indebted mining companies can be bailed out.

That would be pleasant. Until Monday the YL has been pretty quiet. I was rather enjoying it.

Some do yes and I'm one of them. Not all members of the YL are "stooges". It's just that at the moment the majority of people in the YL support Malema's presidency.

Because people like me have been going to work, come back home, read the newspaper and then complain. The next day the cycle continues. I joined the YL this year because I am tired of complaining because that doesn't yield results. I will admit that I haven't raised the AMD issue, I will raise that issue at the next YL branch meeting and see how far I take it.

He's talking out his arse regarding this supposed white monopoly on mining. There are many, many black owned mining companies (mvela, wesizwe etc); the chamber of mines is run by a highly respected black man; mining companies comply over and above their BBBEE requirements, ag and so much more its just ridiculous. He's being his usual schit-stirring self without an ounce of credence to his claims.

Dear marchers - your leader is not only lying to you, but he's lying to all South Africans...
 
And what is this obsession with Gadaffi? What imperialists? Juju, you daft twit, you do realise all you're doing is marching against the government your claim to support and respect as a member of the ANC YL.

I see and get your point about breaking out of the vicious cycle. But why on earth would you choose the ANCYL and not a legit political party?

A lot of the guys have this idea in their heads that they can change the anc (and the YL for that matter) from the "inside" :rolleyes:
 
The concept of nationalisation has been chastised by the current and former finance ministers whose opinions generally I trust. The government has also raised the red flag on this, as it would require substantial capital (and in current global economic situation) would be a death nail to our economy. The remaining solution is for mines to hand over 60% on a plate to the 'people'. It's probably what these GOONS are looking for, but it's ludicrous. It would be similar to moves by Venezuela and Zimbabwe... and I know how GOON No. 1 esteems their leaders.

The ANCYL is not a political party, it's just a youth wing of a political party. I joined it because I chose to try change the party from within (as Zenbaas has already said) than let it be filled by people who do not care about SA but only care about tenders, money and German cars. So I'll try my utmost best to infiltrate and influence people, if I fail then I'll consider other options.

The ANCYL is really Malema's rent a crowd bunch. Joining the ANCYL is not going to change it. Neither is standing on the side.

Getting rid of Malema will be a start.
