I'd like to see a political party take this up and start making it one of the mandates in the forthcoming elections. Wouldnt it be nice to have a true broadband enthusiast and motivated political player shaking things up and putting pressure on the ministers for constant updates and answers. It is looking more and more like a political roadshow, I can just imagine all the power plays, shaking and moving etc that everyone is doing to ensure that the "right" players get a share in the upcoming market. No wonder it's such a drawn out and alltogether behind closed doors affair!

If Mr. Khaas were to run for a position in an election i would vote for him. He seems to be a person who isnt afraid of calling something a rip off if it is a rip off.

I'm not sure I agree with the assumptions that the SNOT will not bring about a change to the Telecoms sector i.e. pricing.
I think there is a key difference between MTN - VODACOM - CELLC and Telkom - SNOT; the mobile sector is quite clearly a growth market. Telkom's sector (fixed) however is fairly stagnant as a result of it's uncompetive pricing regimes and the demand for mobility (increasing prices in an attempt to sustain revenues).
Therefore I question how the SNOT will be able to succeed in this sector (i.e. grow market share) if they don't offer the public, corporates + ISPs something more attractive than the Telkom offering (i.e. service + price). I also don't expect Telkom to just sit and watch while the SNOT strips away their income streams (but then they are Telkom; one of the most ineffective Telcos around).
2 telcos are inevitably better than 1, even small amounts of competition will be effective in reducing the costs; however I still agree without effective regulation (as per UK, India, France, ...) and LLU we won't be realising pricing competitive to the worldwide market.
