Hi there

Well what can I say.... my experience of ADSL and Telkom have not been fun.

I had an ADSL line installed at my house on Monday. The technician tested the line and said that it was working correctly. I contacted Telkom for my username and password as they are my ISP too.

The weird thing is that everything seems to work except for the fact that I can not browse any website.

So let me give you a quick break down of the story.

I have a Marconi ADSL USB Modem supplied by Telkom. I connect with the username and password that I was given from my ISP (Telkom), I get verified and registered on the network. So great everything should work fine.... except that I can not do anything. The funny thing is that I can ping websites and get responses every single time... but not browse through a web browser. I have 3 of them... IE, Opera and Firefox.... but none of them work.

ADSL help desk and Telkom Internet have played ping pong with me for more then 4 hrs.... with no resolution.

Please if anyone can help me get closer to my problem I would GREATLY appreciate it.

Thanks

Sounds like something tinker with your host file, I know there was a virus out while back which did this.

Host file redirects happen to your local pc or a deadzone and no browsing would work.

I have done that with all 3 browsers..... I have them setup to atomatically get network settings... but still nothing

do you have avast antivirus installed. i know that avast and zone alarm sometimes gives trouble and i have had avast give me prob all on its own. usually by stopping the avast webshield it works

I have norton.... but i have disabled everything..... i never had any proxy server until yesterday... some telkom support dude told me to use... cache.saix.net, but still nothing..... with the Marconi software i got.... there is a adsl test... i have run the test, and it fails on the modem test.... it moans about the DUN... which apparently is (Dial Up Network).

What OS are you running?

You can login to your modem admin through your browser (on a local ip?)

You've dumped and reset everything in explorer?

You've found your hosts file - and either dumped it or fixed it (as someone suggested?)

RAULDS, where you at? If you are in the Pretoria area I am willing to pop over and look at it for you. Have you tried a different account? Email me if indeed you are in the Pretoria area. [email protected]

I cannot make any promises, but we can look into it by all means.

Firstly I just wanna say thanks to everything for there suggestions.... much appreciated... if only you all we on the telkom support team... even though i know you would'nt want to be part of such a company.

Anyway the problem was Norton Internet Security... i had disabled every single thing that norton could do... but it still however messed around with my browsing.... anyway got rid of Norton.... and she works like a beauty now.

Thanks again to all of you and the mybroadband team.
