Hi all,

I just bought two new mtn sim-cards for pre-pai(ne)d internet access...

Surely there must be an easier way of enabling gprs on the sim than phoning customer care?
I really really don't feel like a 40 minute wait (I already tried for 12 minutes)

With vodacom you can dial a self help number (1028 - I think) or I think you can just do *111# and follow some menu options...

does MTN have anything similar?

Thanks

I'm currently struggling to get my Voda pay as u go sim gprs enabled...

tried calling customer care but they never answer...

*111# doesn't have any options for gprs

Thanks nGAGEd55 :D
I did some searching on the forums and found a short cut: *123*12#
worked for me

@louisp : There are options on *111# they're disguised as "MMS" or "3G" though
oh and that number is actually: 1082 you dial that and it's a self help menu that explains
how to set up 3g, mms gprs etc..
Hope that helps you ;)

Thx for the info!!

I know my phone is setup'ed correctly cause I can access via GPRS with a different sim... but my new pay-as-u-go card doesn't work.

I'm guessing it should first be enabled

:)

I also have issues with my new pay as you go sim. I tried *123*11#, and now I have duplicate GPRS/MMS settings on my phone that I cannot seem to remove, but that doesnt bother me too much. My contract sim works fine in the same phone.

I tried sending myself a test MMS from the MTN website, but I cannot download it (obviously). This, after I have been welcomed to the MMS service, shortly after receiving the MMS/GPRS settings. Hehe.

Does MTN maybe have a hiccup on the network getting new sim cards enabled for GPRS?

Ohh Ohh!!, I think I might have the solution!

Somewhere in another thread b@ndit said the support desk told him to remove all the GPRS / MMS settings from his phone and download only the WAP settings.
http://www.mybroadband.co.za/vb/archive/index.php/t-31565.html

Now I could not do that, because my ol' Moto V300 doesnt allow me to delete settings downloaded from the network.

So, I did 'n "Master Clear" on my phone, to reset everything back to the way the phone was when I bought it.

Then I did a *123*12# which downloaded MMS settings only, unlike *123*11# which downloads GPRS and MMS settings. My phone already had a MTNice setting - GPRS with "internet" ?APN. So it might be neccessary to do the 11# if you do not have GPRS settings at all in the first place.

After this I tried *123# and then selecting option 1, but I got an error, so I don't think that worked.

Then I opened the WAP browser by accident, and it started working, so I tried connecting with my PC, and that worked too.

So, it seems for some strange reason its important to remove the old GPRS settings from the phone, if it worked on a contract sim before. And then download the settings again using the *123 service.

Try it out.
