According to sources, the iPhone 4S SA release date could be announced for South Africa as soon as a few weeks time, at the end of November. ...... December rollout on track?

Hmm just an annoucement. We could have guessed that right? Nevertheless exciting times ahead! :D

Nope, you misread:

According to a well-placed source, Apple will announce the SA launch date for the iPhone 4S, which includes the Siri software, in the last week in November, possibly on the 24th.

Still wondering whether I should buy an unlocked iPhone 4S via a buddy in the US (Apple is supposed to start unlocked orders from their site in November)... Sure I will save quite a bit, just don't know about the warranty...

Me too :(

I would go for it. The warranty doesn't cover drops etc. anyways that I know of. So you will only be covered for hardware faults etc. that you did not cause. And that is unlikely :) I have always purchased iDevices overseas and have never had a problem. In fact I just bought a couple of 4S's overseas for the family.
 
Sigh Yeah i know what you mean! - I'm asking a family member to bring me a White 4S :love: from spain, if she buys it from the iStore it is unlocked right :erm: thanks :D but i suppose she can just ask them to make sure! - im becoming desperate to get the 4S now, theres only so many iPhone 4S videos and pictures on the net. I need one to hold now!

:D I'm actually not sure about Spain! I would be careful. And I can't seem to find a definite answer online.
 
I would do a bit of online search to make sure - hopefully they are competent enough to tell her that. Also, I doubt that it will be much cheaper (if all) in Europe compared to SA - in terms I price I have it as:

Hong Kong < US < South Africa < rest of the world < UK

Hmm I think we are usually up there with the expensive ones. I usually purchase from UK and it's been cheaper than local prices.
