Sacrificing Camels? Sick ****ing pigs
He has tracked down some of the most dangerous criminals in the country, but now private investigator Brad Nathanson has taken on an odd job – locating 90 camels which the SPCA suspects were brought into KwaZulu-Natal to be sacrificed during the Muslim Eid-ul-Adha celebration on Sunday.
During Eid-ul-Adha, Muslims sacrifice animals to remember Prophet Abraham’s complete obedience to God.
The search started when the Kloof SPCA received an anonymous call two weeks ago that about 90 camels were roaming in the Hammarsdale-Camperdown area.
The call prompted the SPCA to ask for Nathanson’s help.
The investigator, who has dealt with cases including the Jessica Foord rape matter and the Catherine and Clint Krog murder-suicide, volunteered his services.
According to the Chanel Islam International website, Nathanson had posted a plea on Facebook saying: “Please public. This is NOT a joke. I need help to find 90 camels for the SPCA. These animals are being kept somewhere here in KZN (Hammarsdale area maybe) until early November when they will be slaughtered in keeping with a tradition. Please know that I respect ALL religions but cannot accept the unnecessary killing of animals, especially in this day and age. SPCA wants to launch an application to protect these animals from being slaughtered but we need to know where they are being kept.”
However, the post turned into a nightmare for Nathanson, who has not found a single camel, and he has since removed the post after it generated a heated debate.
“I had to remove everything because it was getting out of control and had turned into a racial and religious thing. People had taken this the wrong way; I do not hate or criticise any religious groups. All we (he and the SPCA) want is to make sure that we find these animals and ensure that their slaughtering is humane.”
He said a few people had claimed to have seen the camels, but did not provide any proof.
However, Mufti Zubair Bayat, of the Daral Ihsan education and welfare centre in Durban, said there was no need to create hype around the issue because camels were not commercially available in South Africa.
“I have never heard of camels being used for sacrifice in this part of the world. This was just a rumour to create confusion.”
He said Muslims in South Africa slaughtered sheep, goats or cows, and that camels were slaughtered in their native countries.
Kloof SPCA spokeswoman Barbara Patrick said: “We had to act because animals were involved.
“We were worried about the welfare of the animals and, if such acts were happening, we would be happy to expose them,” Patrick said. - The Mercury

. Sheep and goats are much more cheaper and also can be easily distributed to the poor afterwards.
