Hi,

ISSUE 1:
I took out a 8ta 10 Gb + 10gb(midnight) contract with Telkom (At the midrand store where I had a terrible experience. Look below for my complaining session). My SIM is still not activated.

ISSUE 2:
I also signed the pink form (contract) but didn't recieve a copy of the contract or any documentation. Is that normal? The only thing I got was the simcard. Can somebody please get back to me on this.

ISSUE 3:

I also have an 8ta prepaid simcard which I bought to first see the speeds in my area. I tried using the 8ta Self-Service site.. and registered my number as [email protected]. I then procceeded to change my username to my email address that's easy to remember ([email protected]). Now when I log in, it says I do not have any accounts linked to my name. Whereas before I changed my username I had my 8ta prepaid sim linked to my account.

ISSUE 3.1:

When I eventually get my 8ta contract SIM activated / working will I be able to see BOTH, the contract sim information as well as the prepaid sim information on my 8ta self service account? In other words will I be able to link both my prepaid and my contract to the same self service account?

My Bad Experience at Telkom store in Midrand:

I tried calling the Telkom store in the Boulders shopping centre, but the phone is never picked up. I then went to the store at 3:45 PM because I wanted to get the 8ta 10 gig contract. I had to wait in queue for quite a long time. The sales people working their were very slow and seemed very uninterested, they just took their own time to do things. Eventually, when I reached the front of the queue, I was helped by a lady by the name of Diana. She asked me to fill in the pink contract form. After filling in the form she quickly typed in the details on her computer and then told me that my SIM cannot be activated today and I shouldn't worry it will be working tomorrow. She also tried to rush me into the leaving the store so she could leave early. I asked her for her phone number so I could phone in if my SIM isn't working she told me that it's no point because they don't answer their phones. I then asked her for her email address. I emailed her this morning, only to get the following response: "I am currently on course will be back at the office on 03/11/2011 for any work related queries please forward to Yogen Gengan".

TL;DR Version: Took out contract. SIM still isn't activated. Do not go to the Telkom shop at the Boulders.

I sent a mail but did not get a reply. I had to go back to the 8ta store to get it all sorted out. I am now experiencing an entirely different issue where my signal is -87dbm but my speeds are ridiculously slow. Sometimes it won't even connect. I can guarentee you it's not a user problem nor my modem because when I took my 8ta sim card to a friends house in Randburg I got AMAZING speeds. I am in Noordwyk. Please help me. Please don't respond that I should send an email to [email protected] because nobody will get back to me. PM me a phone number of someone I can speak to please.

This worries me; I'm about a day away from moving all of my cellphone contracts over to them. I'll wait a while, following this thread.

I would highly recommend that you don't switch over. Not because I'm irritated with them. It's because their billing system and admin is a nightmare. I've tried every network in this country and it still seems that Vodacon and MTN are still the most reliable or not really reliable but the least unreliable :D.

Lease crap In order of service imo:

1) Vodacon
2) MTN
3) CellC
4) VirginMobile
5) 8ta

I also got another problem where I have also registered for the 8ta Midnight Data Promo but my 8ta will always disconnect and not reconnect somewhere between 1am and 2am. I know for fact it's 8ta because other networks 3G stays connected during that time. I have also read on the forum that other users are experiencing the same problem. 8ta please please sort this out.

I have never been on MTN, but have been on all the rest and between those I would rather rank them as follows:

1) CellC
2) Vodacom
3) 8ta
4) Virgin Mobile
