Need to buy a well balanced office laptop

hi
its that time in my life where i am being forced to change my laptop,
currently am using a hp 6125 laptop which works perfectly well for a oldish laptop

my fear of upgrading laptops is possible unsuitable one or one made on a friday
and migration to mac product,
(my previous laptop was a sony viao which was deffinitely built on a friday:mad:)

From a 6125 what should i consider?
Is there anything great being launched?
Should i consider a mac, whats the benefits?
or any of your thoughts..
 
If you want, check the link in my signature for a rundown of a few simple laptops on offer, I have more high end offers, which I haven't listed yet.

Basically you need to be sure of what you want, then the folks (and me) can assist better.

If you choose a MAC, you will basically have to change everything you are used to, software, possibly hardware etc. I'm not saying don't go for it, but it shouldn't be a test to just see if you can use a MAC.
 
macbook air... running windows 7 if you prefer... you wont need another laptop in years.

You are basically looking for an i5 or i7 system with Windows 7 Professional and good battery life (if you are going to be taking anywhere).

An option as well. It's just small though, so if screen size isn't an issue and the cost of it as well, then it's not a problem.
 
Whats the benefit of Macbook with windows?
been on the Apple site, will the Macbook pro with windows be my solution,
 
What is your budget Safrica? (The maximum you want to spend)

Also which operating system are you going to run? Windows/iOS/Linux/FreeBSD/Solaris/???

Name your 10 or so most used applications (eg. Microsoft Word, Firefox, Outlook etc). It'll help determine the kind of hardware you should be buying.

Also:
Using a Macbook for Windows is SH#T. Macbooks only have 1 mouse button, that will be your first most obvious problem. Next up the support, it was designed for iOS, not Windows. There are so many reason to list why it is the worst possible idea to get a Macbook for Windows.

You can get a laptop from HP, Dell or Lenovo (IBM) and you "wont need another laptop in years"

Buy what is in your budget range that will get the task done. This buying because it is Apple is nonsense. It is the same as buying a 4x4 and attaching a plow instead of having bought a tractor from the start.

hi, currently using windows based pc with office, dont really need any other applications
because i hate changing laptops often, prefer buying something that i can use a few good years
 
I don't recommend buying the Apple MacBook. It has Mac OS and you will basically have to buy all the software again (ie: Mac Version of Microsoft Office, etc). I heard it is not simple to operate Windows on a MacBook.

If you want a laptop for business only, you should have a look at some Dell, lenovo or HP laptops. If you going to use it stricly for business, you could just get a laptop that is about 4 - 5 grand. Those should have an i3/i5 and 2/4GB of RAM.
 
Do not go for anything else. Get a Mac, you will NEVER look back. You can run windows on if you really want to, and no it does not have one mouse button, it has a multi-touch trackpad that can do a hell of a lot more than right-click.

I would recommend the MacBook Pro. It comes with a cd/DVD drive, but is still very compact.

I swear by mine.
 
If its just for the office get an i3 with 2gb ram (maby i5 if you have a bit more dosh). im running windows 7 on my moms laptop @ 1.8ghz celeron and 512mb ram.works fine.

Also if your looking for a 13" laptop, the you either get an i3 (about R5K-R6K) or you might as well move onto the mac domain as i5/i7 will cost you the same price as a mac.

I mention this point as I was faced with this situation a few weeks ago and got a Toshiba i3.

Also if you need a backlit keyboard, then you only see this feature on laptops costing > R10K (and not all macbook airs on the market have the backlit keyboard, there is an oversupply of the previous model and it lacks this feature. I nearly bought one)
