SA Internet usage growth poor even for Africa

I'd like to congratulate Telkom on such a fantastic job.
Telkom is serious about bringing world class telecoms to South Africa and these stats prove how commited they are to SA's growth.
Again, well done Telkom!

I am tired of just reading about all this... everyone says we are paying too much and that Telkom needs competition but no-one ever does anything :mad:

Telkom execs obviously do not read the news - or anything else. Why should they - they know it all - and they are too busy ripping us a new one daily - they don't have time to read dumb articles or research... or even keep up the telecommunications industry - why should they - they are riding a big fat cash cow... called Ivy!! :rolleyes: Shheeesh. :mad:
 
On Carte Blanche last night, there was this woman that had breast cancer and Discovery won't pay for a new cancer medicine. The lady and 7 others are sueing Discovery to get them to pay for the treatment. Discovery says that the medicine from Roche is too expensive and that the young lady would be better off turning to Roche to get them to lower the price of the medicine.

The well spoken lady, replied that she does not have a relationship with Roche. She pays Discovery for her medical aid. She expects Discovery to get Roche to lower the price of the medicine or pay for her treatment.

I thought, "Wow! What a woman."

Now how does that relates to this article?

Well sure Telkom has a very big part to play in the cost of Internet access in SA, but there are other players as well. These companies have a wholesale supplier relationship with Telkom. What do you expect them to do? Form a clicque and keep the status quo? What do they do to promote cheap Internet access?

EDIT: It would seem that the only thing the clicque is concerned about is "profit squeeze". That phrase is thrown around so much in those circles.

Reports like that really gives me this warm feeling... but then again i feel like that right before i puke my guts out when i drank too much
 
I get sad nowadays reading things like this cause we were leaders in africa, and now we reduced to bottom feeders due to the goverments mistake in post 97? and continued lack of effort with the whole excuse of 'but it pays for projects we couldn't necessarily do' and make them rich. wtf.

The other sad thing is its unlikely to change cause lets face it, the richer people get doing nothing the less likely they will want to make changes besides its not like businesses here are holding strike force kinda ultimatums. So the gov just keeps rolling with its talk.

I wish big businesses say something like, fix it or we all get out and slump the economy.

Excuse me for asking the obvious, I'm just back in the country, but I and am wondering whether there is anything that can be done?

An article like this seems to show the obvious. I expect that many such articles speak the obvious, the last lines in this article seeming to indicate that efforts for a solution are reaching a point of complacency.

Is there anything in your opinions that you and I can do? Is there somewhere I can look for more information?

What was that about "economies of scale" etc? I vaguely remember Telkom bleating on about this and offering it up as an excuse for the high pricing and pisspoor broadband penetration in SA. Wonder how places like Australia, Tunisia, Morocco etc manage it?
