Hi all

I need some help/advice on an order I placed with Digital Planet.

I placed the order on the 26th of January for a keyboard and game. The order was confirmed the same day via email with the delivery cost at R48.

On the 8th of February I was informed the game will have an extended delivery time, so the keyboard will be shipped first at their cost, with the game shipping when they have stock.

No problem so far, until:

Friday (24th), DP emails me saying that since the first package had a shipping fee of R1121, they will not deliver the second package. Either I cancel and get refunded or I provide a cheaper alternative shipping address.

I emailed back insisting they complete the order since I have been waiting a month for this and have a confirmed order with shipping cost specified.

So today Warren Moss (GM) emails me, again saying they will not ship for R1121. Their courier company claims it's an outlying area and will only do it as a special delivery, hence the cost. Also, DP's terms and conditions protect them against these situations.

So now is seems I have to cancel the order and get refunded. Was offered a 10% discount on my next purchase.

What do I do now?

Canceling the order would be ok, since I can get the game for cheaper at Take2 and they have no problem shipping to me. (for R29 :) )

I am so angry at the pathetic service I got that I need a better option.

How I'm supposed to use the 10% discount is beyond me, since they will not ship to me.

Looks like DP have many issues ... what a shame. Come tomorrow they'll have an even bigger one.

"Digital Planet can cancel any order at any time" covers just about all fu!kups they can possible make.

Nothing about the shipping as far as I can see.

Makes me wish that order of yours succeeded. :p

You placed your order on the 26th of January. I have a copy of the T&C's from the 12th of Feb, where that clause is non-existant. You can and should hold them to this agreement, although the fact that you can get the game at a better price from Take2 complicates matters.

Darkangel,

Can you mail me a copy of that terms and conditions. gps951 @ gmail.com

R1121 for shipping a game/keyboard ? Where do you live ?

It seems like it but I think for that amount you can send stuff around to world and back. Yeah where do u live?

Darkangel, I got your mail. Thx.

Delivery address is a small town in the Northern Cape. Usually the city couriers sub-contract local couriers to deliver packages. Works well and is not that expensive. Apart from Digital Planet that is. Thier courier seems to want to drive all the way themselves.

I have not even received the keyboard yet!

Yeah I'd say you can and should hold them to that agreement. If they had those terms and conditions when you placed your order (and can prove when you placed the order), then I think they may very well be legally binding.

Also, that clause that "Digital Planet can cancel any order at any point" doesn't sound particularly good... Surely if you have a personal pledge from them that they will ship to you at their cost then that's what happens. Regardless of their cockups really...

R1121? Thats mad, thats normally the rate to the far east. You sure they got your address correct?

I will be in a small town in NC next week, why should shipping be that much, no ways. you could have fly to cape town and back for that price.
(just for interest sake what town are you in)

Some useless info:

Flying from Upington to Cape Town and back with SA Airlink (only air service available) will cost about R2000. Depending how long before the time you book.

I bought a set of speakers from prophecy.co.za this week. Total shipping cost from Berco Express couriers was R 134.
