US national archives video online

This is good news!
I will be following this closely.

The state of our own Archives is a question of debate.
I am of the opinion that the current Government does not care a hoot about VOC or Colonial Office History.

I think some of the Archives in the Eastern Cape are deteriorating.
The Cape Town Archives are still OK.
I have been in one the Repositories myself.
They are large lockable vaults that are kept at a constant temperature and the Volumes are neatly stacked on shelves.
The South African National Archives uses the ageing NAAIRS system for indexing.
 
Two things have occured to me while reading this article...

1) what're the chances that several items are gonna go missing during the conversion process, "stolen"

2) how much is going to be kept from us? Surely certain things the governments of the world won't want accessible to everyone.........
