PC and Broadband Connection for under R 100-00 per month

Telkom entered the market with their cheapest ADSL PC bundle priced at R 612-00 per month for 36 months. Consumers signing up for this low-end package will get a PC and Telkom’s DSL 192 service.

Sentech’s MyWireless PC bundle came in slightly cheaper at R 499-00 per month with only a 24 month contract.

It is encouraging to see SA telecoms companies targeting new segments of the population to invest in a PC and broadband connection.

Its amazing how India`s government, has understood the importance of IT and the future of it. Here in South Africa the country is suffering thanks to the greed of Telkom and its shareholders.

Now this if forward thinking at its best! Provide some things at cost to entice customers to use a service that will turn into money hand over fist a couple of months down the line. WONDERFUL!
 
I wish titles like this would include "India: PC and Broadband...", otherwise I won't have a frikken heart attach every time I see the headlines. The fact that Sentech and Telkom is also listed in the subtitle doesn't help...

I wonder how much is the cap for that connection?
 
Probably no cap...its not a very fast line by international standards.

The SNO couldn't introduce a free market here even if they wanted to. Our problems are with the regulatory environment, there is little point in looking to individual companies to try solve that problem. In fact quite the opposite, these companies have a vested interest in maintaining the status quo whereby they are protected.

There is a 400M cap... Not much more expensive for a higher cap...
 
put it this way. the government doesnt want people to have cheap net access, broadband or otherwise. I mean the majority of people on this site have a fairly good grasp of what is happening on the international scene and know how badly we being ripped off.

BUT

the poor farmer dude in boesmansbumdorp in the middle of nowhere might firmly believe that a year is a good ammount of time to wait for the installation of his phone line. just think what would happen if every citizen in the country suddenly had cheap easy internet access. ok most would spend a month or two looking at porn but then they would start looking at other sites and they might just figure out. "hey im getting shafted over here".

now the govt can handle 120k of us all moaning, but not a couple million of us.

hence the doc dont do anything to jeopordise their cash cows or their cureent positions.

just a bit of a different take on things.
