I have noticed in my area Richmond KZN, The 8ta base station at the Telkom Exchange drops every two to three days for about 5 minutes constantly (on off on off on off type thing for 5 Minutes) causing my modem to get very confused and I have to unplug the modem to reconnect because it won’t once this happens.
I have tested this with a ZTE MF668 USB Modem, Huawei E1820 Modem, Huawei E173 modem and get the same issue, I have also tried a pre-paid 8ta sim that is non-roaming with two PC’s and one router all in various combinations, and still every two to three days, the base station goes on the blink for 5 Minutes.
So the other day I put my prepaid sim in my phone, when I noticed the connection dropped I tried calling off the 8ta phone, which is a Nokia N8 and it was on 3G only mode, I was unable to make calls during this time.
So I am guessing there is a problem with the base station in our area. I have emailed [email protected], tried explaining to the 081 180 call centre with no positive outcome.
So what I want to know is, does 8ta have a system whereby they can see what numbers were connected the same base station I connect to and whether it will show them if all traffic dropped at the same time to all the numbers connected to that base station?
I am across the road from the Base Station and can see it; MDMA reports signal strength of -79dBm, which should be well above good.
Other than that I am happy with the speed & latency I am getting, my connection stays connected all the time and only drops when this problem appears.
8ta rep would you be able to do some checks on your side?
