Broadband overtakes dial-up in the UK

Wouldn't it be amazing if the same could happen here.

"Telkom has however vowed to remedy this situation with a target of 1 million Telkom broadband users by 2008."
They have 670 days to achieve this, which, by current statistics and a simple calculation, means they will have to install 1313 'broadband' (used loosely when speaking about Telkom's slow offerings) connections every single day Monday to Sunday, or 1841 ADSL connections every single business day. That's +-37,000 new connections per month.

He just happens to say that before elections, and this will be his last term (right?) if he wins. So he will not have to take any flaming if it doen't work out by then.
 
Also who's gonna take over ? the Zuma's ? I think after he leaves it is the end of blind voting somewhat also people are getting sick of their promises so 15yrs later (from 94)(or 3yrs from now) i don't think they will be as dominant. which will actually be a good thing. Not having one party in control of everything means lesser things one party can mess up/delay in their favour.. but then again its politics and thats a dirty game.
 
I wonder if AOL in the UK is going to go the same way there as they've just done in the states ie increasing their dial-up price so its at the same level as broadband. :eek:

I can't speak for AOL but most of the dialup users that I knew in the UK used "free" ISPs. You dial an 0860 xxx number and the cost is whacked onto your phone bill ... anything more than 30 minutes per night and it's cheaper going for broadband.

How many new installations do they do at the moment? coz 1313 a day seems like a lot but I've heard of international telcos coping with more daily installations of ADSL just fine.

That might be true but we are still talking about Crapkom.

Well since theres like 120 000 subscribers at present, if they are doing 30 000 odd a month, that means that they are aiming to double their subscribers within the next 4 months. heh. good luck with that one. unless they scrap the costs altogether and rehire all the techies they retrenched, I dont somehow see them breaking the 250 k target by 2008 unless they make some drastic changes.
