Woolies pricing themselves out the market?

Well they do cater for the upmarket folks.
This is the issue. Quality elsewhere is in decline.
It isn't as if Woolworths is brilliant, just marginally better.

For some things, there are a few rare things that are better at Woolies. Like their Fuji Apples.
But yes, on most other things, they are just hectically over priced.
You have to shop there very selectively.

Jip, woolies have gone a bit crazy with their prices, but so has the all the shops (maybe to a lesser extent).

If you look at a lot of their stuff you will see that there are cheaper options. Sometimes the prices are the same as picknpay.
Often there is reason for the stuff being so expensive (free range, organic, sustainable etc)
A few weeks back I picked up a packet of Woolies 100 gram biltong as a snack on the way home. I got to the till and the cost was R75. I kindly asked the cashier to return it to the shelf and walked out.
I have no qualms in paying a premium for premium goods, but there comes a point when you just feel like they're taking the piss and that's precisely what they're doing...

They can be expensive but they do have their bargains.
They were selling Marmite for R12 a jar, needless to say it was around R6 to 7 cheaper then major supermarkets.

Yeah, they are expensive, but chicken is gonna be 10% more this christmas. You know, because we decided to export all our maize, so that we can import it from other countries. As a result, chicken feed prices have gone up, so chicken prices are gone up. I'm not joking, I read it in the paper this morning. Dont you just love our country's logic? If it doesnt work, beat it with a banana and give it a pay raise!

I buy all my fruits and veg from Woolies. Pricey, but good quality stuff compared to the other stores. Everything else I get from PnP or Checkers.
pahhh, woolies is as cheap as most supermarkets and 10 x the quality.
at the moment some of their specials include a free 6 pack small yoghurt with a large one, 2 packets of 100g biltong for R40, so thats way less than R75 as someone mentioned and lots of other instore specials.
its a myth these days that they are soooo much more expensive, heck recently they had the awesome steak special, all the cuts at around R70 a kg and nobody has better cut steaks.

Yep, it does look better. Their blueberries were good, but the other places were far better for simple things like water-melon.

I am sorry to disagree. I can get an entire chicken, roasted, at Pick 'n Pay or Checkers for R29 to R39. Go and try Woolies' roasted chicken. It's tiny, and it's really expensive by comparison.
Why would you be ashamed? If it is cheaper and you are happy with the qaulity then great
