Phishing scam via landline call

I just received a call from an international number on my land line (unfortunately I didn't get the number from my caller ID, and my land line phone doesn't save history for the caller ID) that's a voice variation on the phishing email that tells you that your PC is infected with a virus. The lady (sounded like an East European accent) was trying to convince me to follow her instructions to remove some virus that they apparently picked up that I have. She just put the phone down after I told her I don't understand her instructions, because I'm running linux not Windows.

It's quite a convincing scam, so please warn people that you know.

Dear Receiver,

You have just received a Taliban virus. Since we are not so technologicaly advanced in Afghanistan, this is a MANUAL virus. Please delete all the files on your hard disk yourself and send this mail to everyone you know.

People are so gullible.
I blame telesales agents. People are willing to part with information to strangers without asking questions. Nex time a telesales person phones and says "Is this so-and-so" just ask who they are first... and if it's a telesales call, just say wrong number and put the phone down.
