The iBurst system is being deployed nationwide in the two regional powerhouses of Australia and South Africa as well as in Kenya and Canada. Several large-scale deployments are planned in other countries.

Not quite down and out just yet.

This is excellent news...Go Kyocera go!

"Can it be? Where in the world is it cheaper to fly 2000km to collect data than send it via internet or wide-area network? Why South Africa of course!! Thanks Telscum!"

Ha Ha Ha...nice quote there.
Well, I wrote a blog entry titled iBURST: The Future of Wireless Broadband in Africa?.

Now, after reading the following quote in this article, I eagerly look forward to this mobile VoIP product offering that works with iBurst. Can you imagine people here in Kenya bypassing SafariCom, CellTel and Telkom Kenya for most telephone calls?? Did any of you guys over there in South Africa get a peek at said devices??

The Forum will see the unveiling of Kyocera’s revolutionary mobile VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) handset aimed at making affordable voice communications accessible to all. Kyocera has a mission to deliver world-class products that can be used on the iBurst system to the most marginalized of continents. While many people talk about Africa leapfrogging the developed world, Kyocera is one of the few organizations to provide the practical means of doing this.

Great site BTW...lots of good discussions.
