Really how much more is it? How close to the 570 is it in terms of pricing? Limited edition mid end card, hmmm interesting if it does not 500 bucks more.

The triple slot fan design really needs better mechanical support, or at least my HD6970 DirectCU II needed better mechanical support, so that it doesn't bend the PCB and that it doesn't rattle.

Whats your temps like on the 6970 DirectCU II?

My Sapphire 6970 seems to be a little hot. Idle is about 61 and load about 80 - 85. Not sure if I should be worried.

I have the 6950 OC'd to 920mhz and I get the above temps.

When I had that card, it was also running in that range, but just when using the default fan profile.
I manually modified the fan profile with MSI AfterBurner and then the temperatures came down drastically, but the noise was also much higher.

I don't really mind, as long as it is in normal range. It is a sick card.

Nope i doubt it my old one also ran really hot, the 6970 is a very hot card. Hotter than the 58's

Idle should be around 40'C, depends on case/fans/room ambient temperature. 80 - 85'C load is perfectly normal, absolutely nothing to worry about there.

Thats the funny part, I have a HAF932, loads of fans, huge case and still idle around 60. It must be the ambient room temp I guess, still can't see how it would make 20 degree difference.

This could be why. Too many/incorrectly positioned fans. How many? Can you explain which way they're set up?

Are these recent temps since the advent of summer? Or did you get them in winter as well?

Stock fans in HAF932:

rear : 1x140 / top : 1x230 / front : 1x230 - red / side - 1x230

With that config and other simple front/back/top fan setups in modern cases, positioned correctly, in a room with normal ambient temperature around 20 - 22'C, you should be getting lower idle temps.

You can try disabling the side fan, could be messing with the natural path of air in the case (probably not though).

Just making sure, by idle you mean with no video processing demanding apps active? I run at about 50'C while streaming/YouTubing.

I doubt you've fixed graphics card fan speed, you're running auto fan speed right?

Hmmm my 6990 which is pretty much a heater runs at 53 idle and 42 idle with my 932. I had to run a big side fan when i had the 6970 as well as the 6990. I run my 6990 on 55% fan.

What is your gpu fan set to? You have all the fans running in 932 running right? Front blowing in, side panel, top blowing in and 14cm sucking out?

Front 1 x 140 I think is sucking air in.
I have taken the rear fan off as I have the Antec 920, so I have 2 fans and a radiator now. One fan blows into the radiator the other exhausts.
I put the rear fan at the bottom of the case blowing air up onto the gfx card to see if that would help and nothing.

I have the fan speed on auto. Normally goes between 40 and 50 whilst gaming.

I will try disconnecting the side fan, who knows.

Hey Killa, GPU is on auto but sits around 30% on idle and goes to about 50% in gaming. I hate noisy fans so manually setting it to 50% in idle would drive me nuts!!

All fans are running yip. Front sucking in, side and top blowing in and the rear exhaust on my Antec 920.

Okay in my experience, with a CPU water cooler with push/pull fans, because that's what seems to be the problem:

Front fan in
Side fan (unnecessary) in
Rear fan = radiator = both fans in
Top fan = out

If radiator does not fit at rear

Front fan in
Side fan (unnecessary) in
Rear fan = out
Top fan = radiator = both fans in
 
I am thinking of doing the following:

A: ) First take the heatsink off and apply some after market thermal paste and see if that has any effect.

Idle temp does not mean you "need" to change things. Load temp is what should be of main concern.

Yes if idle temp is too high, which is leading to too high load temps and inevitable slowing/freezing/shutting down, then yes all issues idle and load need to be addressed.

Your load temp is fine, therefore there is no problem. IMO your slightly higher than usual idle temp (to confirm: which is not affecting your load temp), if not related to higher ambient room temps, is due to fan positioning.

Personally I don't think it is my case or the fan config, can't see how it is so wrong that it is causing my idle temps to be so high.

But nevertheless, I agree, if the load temps are not a concern then there ins't really much to worry about. I guess I am being anal about it and want it to run at the said 41 degrees idle. But anyway, Its currently at 66 degrees idle, seems nuts to me, but **** it, closing all these temp monitoring apps and leave it be. If it burns out it burns out. Nothing I can do :p

Bump the fan to 40% you cannot really hear it. If it is loud then just accept it will run hot hey.

Yeah have done that using MSI after burner.
 
LOL they made these cards so hot anything under 100 is all good :D. I thought things were getting smaller and cooler but it seems gpu are smaller and hotter :p
