I can only upgrade my PC towards end 2012
so right now i've got a P4 3.00GHz single core,1GB RAM, and i have dreams to play MW3 + BF3- can a graphics card save me?
the current graphics card wont handle anything new - i have a PCI Express Geforce 7900 GT

i really know i need to upgrade,so if you want to say "dude you need to upgrade", i already know that.
if you also want to say "dude youre missing out on all the detail", i also know that

soooo
my question
will getting a new , entry level , graphics card, enable me to play Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 on my PC?
Im happy with 800x600 and no shadows, no trilinear no bilinear no anti-aliasing no shadows no nothing, i just want to play the game

which of the super (i suspect it is super) specials would be a best bet (ive got about R600 and can squeeze some more for the VAT)
http://www.esquire.co.za/specials/2011_12_03Spotlight.html

i was looking at
HD5670 1GB DDR3
Engine clock 775MHz
Memory clock 667 MHz x2
Memory Interface 128bit
DirectX support 11
Bus Standard PCIE2.1

or
HD6570 1GB DDR3
Engine clock 650MHz
Memory clock --does not state
Memory Interface 128bit
DirectX support 11
Bus Standard PCIE2.1

R599 ex vat each

or if i need to really really go full house
the
HD6670 1GB GDDR5

this is basically the last lifeline i want to throw at my PC before upgrade end next year

would i need a new power supply for this? i only have a 235W el-cheapo power supply.
would my ASUS P5GD1 be able to handle PCI Bus Standard PCIE2.1 card? http://www.asus.com/999/html/events/mb/socket775/p5gd1/overview.htm#
i am also running windows XP due to software i use which require XP

thanks

I managed to play MW 2 on a P4 3GHZ, 1GB ram with a 9500GT. The settings was between low and medium and the game was playable. I have no idea if MW3/BF3 will work.

I can however tell you that a 235w PSU is not enough once you get a graphics card.

I really can't tell brands. I think a 400-500w PSU should be more than enough. You have to decide on a graphics card, check the minimum power required and decide on a PSU from that.

EDIT
I should probably keep quiet and let the hardware experts answer.

Why dont you rather just pick up an xbox on Gumtree for r1k or so? You'll be able to play both of those games with decent gfx and resolution.

thanks, @cerebus i do have a xbox, got it for the reason that i cant afford to upgrade gfx cards, but tried out the first persons on xbox but its not for me (playing other games on it though so it was worth it)
dont want to get into a whole console fps vs pc fps debate though, so im writing it down to preference alone. if you are able to enjoy it on the xbox its awesome , if not, then PC is the option for you.

i dont want to buy one of these gfx cards just to find out i wont be able to play the games

I think you are fooked. BF3 requires vista/win7, dual core, 2GB ram minimum, dunno what the directx requirements are.

I don't think BF3 will even start on a P4. AFAIK it requires a dual core CPU at the very least.
An HD5670/6770 might also be too weak to get decent framerates.

Look........ honestly that P4 isn't good for anything anymore. It's beyond ancient in computer terms. You'll need to retire it and buy a totally new PC if you want to do any kind of gaming.
