this is my last "beg" for help. applied for adsl with hellkom last year june-apparently it is available, but still waiting. when i dialup, shhhh don't telll anyone from overseas i get 38k dialup speed, no 3g, no iburst/sentech connectivity. i know this place is like an old age home but cummon - DIALUP the only option, i literally cannot wait for something else. is there some secret way peolpe in not so "outer lying" areas are connecting ? just feeling very sorry for myself.d.:(

have you tried ISDN? 2x64k is not that bad...

alternatively, get an EDGE card (if available in your area). I think EDGE i a bit faster than your dialup. Not 3G...

MTN has always been very helpfull when you don't have proper coverage. If you don't have EDGE, ask them to upgrade the tower to support EDGE.

Not sure what you mean by available but still waiting. Does everton connect to the Kloof exchange? My folks live in Kloof and we got them connected to Adsl beggining of this year. Initially got the no port available story but a few rather determined calls to telkom got that sorted in about a two weeks.

One thing i have learnt with telkom is if you apply for something or report a fault and then expect it too happen you will just fall too the bottom of the que and eventually "disappear". I sugest re applying and then calling every second day to enquire about the progress of your aplication. Once you reach a problem, dont accept that it will be solved, get hold of the manager and then start bugging him every day until it is solved.

I fought for about 6 months to get connected in Everton. Keep fighting, everyday ask for a date or tell them to "ACTUALLY CHECK" for a port for you. It was a battle but we got an install in the end.

Everton

Me down in the valley in gillits i mean right at the bottom. 3g signal works PM me if you want to check the 3g in yr area.

I get signal at our offices in kloof aswell.

Worth a look let me know what road and i shall take a drive along there for you.

Thanks guys - I am in forest view drive at the bottom. In early may I will be moving to plantations hillcrest so I reckon I will have more options then....

If you have no joy try find someone with ADSL and get a wireless connection to them.

Lots of people interested in DWC in that area but no one has any links yet.

it's not the point of DWC to provide internet access but rather for members to share resources eg internet connections. so you can VPN access the network to someone that you know or can find and you can sort out all the details... we don't care
