Hi,

Im looking at signing up for the 8ta 10Gig promo. Just have a few questions because I do not trust ANY cell phone companies:

1) Coverage map is very vague, if I sign up and im not happy with signal, can I return the device and cancel contract within 7 days of purchase? (As per consumer protection act)

2) Does the customer (me) have the option to choose manual payment rather than debit order? Why im asking is because cell phone companies generally are very quick to take the money first and if you have a query, they take forever to refund you - if they even get to that point.

3) Does the unused data carry over to the next month? Because you have effectively payed for it?

4) Has anyone experienced bad data capturing and wrong billing? And can yo put a cap on the contract, ie. 10Gb/month max and then you done, to avoid over runs!

I would appreciate it if someone from 8ta or anyone else with this contract can clear me up on the above issues.

Thanks!:)

You buy a prepaid sim, make it non-roaming and buy a small bundle to test.

Not sure, our contract is an automatic debit order.

No

Haven't been billed wrong yet. Don't know about a cap, if there is, I don't use it since I plan out my usage very carefully.

1- If you fall in the pink on the coverage map you will have coverage, as far as I know if you have coverage problem and it indicated on the map that you have coverage then there is a resolution process to get an antenna from 8ta.

4- In my experience your usage is sort of paused, you will then be transferred to the 8ta website and choose what your next step is.

I've been both paused and gone over my cap, during different months. I'm not entirely sure what applies when?

This might sound like a stupid question but does the faster modem give you better pings?

No, only better speeds. However, I've heard of different types of modems giving better pings but that I think has more to do with signal strength.

Ping: How long it takes (in milliseconds) for data to travel from you to the internet. It affects the response time when you click a link, or the lag or delay you experience while playing online games.

Speed: amount of data per second that you can transmit/receive from the internet. (Usually megabits or kilobits per second)

Roxstompa, if you would like to test the service before you commit to the contract, I suggest you get a normal 8ta prepaid SIM card, ask them to activate it for the 2Gig+1Gig Prepaid promo at R149, then take it home and use the data till the end of the next month. Once you are happy with the performance, get the contract. It's easy to do, once the SIM is activated onto the 8ta network, you load R150 airtime, dial *180#, choose Bundle Purchases, Data Bundles, 2+1Gig, and then confirm. Within minutes you should get an SMS confirming that your 2+1 gig bundle is loaded. You can dial *188# to check your balance after this to reconfirm.

On your point 4 - Once you use up your data bundle, you will be redirected to a webpage where you can choose to go out of bundle, or buy a new bundle, or use a free 'trickle feed'. This should prevent you using more than 10 Gigs and being charged for out of bundle data (unless you choose that option.)

Good idea. Any idea when the promotion will end?

Well, it has been stated in various press releases that the 10 gig promo end 31 Decemeber apparently, so hurry! Not sure about the 2+1 though.

Best bet is to act now.

Having an 8ta technician check speeds issues at my house this afternoon.

Must say, I am impressed with them in general - the issues that do cause an issue can be (hopefully) written off as learning experiences for a very new company. Also take into account that most of the complaints and issues are localised - there are many users on this forum that enjoy 8ta's service at max capacity.

What I have experienced thus far (ignoring current problems) were speeds that made other wireless IP's look stupid, Downloading torrents at 600-800kbps - compared to CellC's 350kbps.

So, yeah, 8ta is great and have the potential to be awesome.

[PS. my debit order bounced for this month and I'm still online! w00t for slow billing!]

i loaded the 10gb midnight surfer today but i only got 7928mb.
can some onle pls explain why?
8ta rep maybe?

The data gets allocated pro rata the days in the month.

So as it is the 7th today you get 24 days worth of data.
