I can't get the ZTE Vodafone Internet Starter pack modem to work properly with my 8ta Prepaid SIM.

I can connect using *99# and a dialup networking connection, the light goes solid blue and a few kilobytes are exchanged, but if I open a browser, it says "Webpage cannot be found."

I tried using generic Vodafone connection software and again, it connects with *99# and "internet" APN, but still cannot access any webpages.

Is this modem locked in a sense that you can't access a non-vodafone DNS or something? Anybody else had success with this ZTE modem?

This is on Windows 7 Home Basic.

I can access Vodacom broadband with this modem obviously, on this laptop, so it is specific to the 8ta connection. I can send SMS and receive SMS with the connection software and I have the 2Gig+1Gig promo loaded.

I am surprised you can use Vodafone software to dial 8ta SIM at all. See sticky:

Download mdma. There are options in Vodafone software:
1. do not load at startup
2. remove from system tray on exit

Select these options, save and exit. Then you can use ot other dialer software.

Thanks for the suggestions. Actually, it seems there is a specific problem with this laptop and not in general with the Vodafone dongle or 8ta SIM. So this thread can be closed.
