Chinese court rejects Apple iPad trademark suit

At least Apple is getting a taste of their own medicine... What a pleasant surprise...

I doubt China would allow one of its key financial customers to get burnt... i.e. the R12 billion fee would not hurt Apple as much as it could hurt China in the long run, especially considering Brazil is very hungry...

Imo This matter will matter will soon resolve itself i.e. what happens behind scenes is the true nature of this economy.

Don't think Brazil has the infrastructure or trained staff to do what the Chinese do.

Unless you don't mind the price of Apple products doubling by moving out of China...

The problem is not an immediate issue, but rather a driven intention to shift production i.e. R12 Billion's worth of taxes will never substantiate the potential loss of Apple's business in the future.

Brazil btw is not more cost restrictive than China hence they have already broken manufacturing ground with a portion of the iPad2's; trained skills are a initial hindrance but not for too long; keep in mind that the world's richest person (man) is currently the major push behind getting Brazil established in this area i.e. financially this is well supported and China knows this.

You forgot one small key element.... Rare earth's. Currently China has the monopoly on that, well we can mine it somewhere else but no one is a geared as they are on the matter.

I don't think that changes anything I.e. the last thing they'll want is to loose a key foothold in the manufacturing industry I.e. with > 1 Billion people employment will always be a major concern for them as will be balancing their GDP.

Btw new technologies are already pitched to overcome the need for rare earths I.e. no use relying on something that rare, China understands better than most that if they restrict the supply or out price the market, science and industry will rapidly pursue alternatives -- therefore it's in their best interest to not force the market into this too soon.

Based on previous issues with China, Toyota and Tesla have for example already started producing hybrid motor technology that not only avoids rare earths but is also more efficient in the process.

The end result imo will be a closed door negotiation whereby China will gain some foothold with Apple (remember that this is not a democracy, and therefore not restricted by public approval)
