Hi

I want to upgrade my PC, what CPU is best for me?
im looking at the AMD athlone 64x2 3800+ (Dual Core), or the AMD Athlone 64 4000+, (or anything else u suggest? nothing that will kill me with price :p )

I use mostly graphic software (Photoshop, Coreldraw, etc), and play games such as Flight Simulator (cant wait for Flight Simulator X  ) oh and maybe also video editing once in a while.

What CPU is best for me? and with Windows Vista coming out, what is suitable for it?
I'm also looking at gettin 2 x 1gig ram.
and what Motherboard?
and also, what do you think is a reasonable price for this?

Thanks

AMD 4200+ -much better and small price jump (R2800)
Asus nForce 4 deluxe - extremely good board, maybe a lil bit expensive. Never go for a cheap MB though! You will suffer!(R1900)
2GB corsair valueselect - same price as cheapo ram so why not(R1700)
GFX is up to you , if you are planing on gettin new flight sim i recomend a 7800gt(R3400) because the new flight sim is going to be very hungry. But im sure a 6600gt(R1200) will play it well enough though.

The dualcore is a must for video editing and photoshop.

*prices are estimates, im sure person update them

Oh brother ! AMD ATHLONE!!!
No offence thats just the funniest thing I've heard in a while living in CPT in all....
Anyways whats your setup now?

AMD 4200+ Dual Core R2,806.76
Asus nForce 4 deluxe R1,944.36
2GB corsair valueselect R1,707.72
Legend PCI-e 7800GT 256MB R 2,599 .00
Legend PCI-e 6600GT 256MB R 1,153.93

*Person bot online* Prices incl VAT.

sheesh how close was i with those guesses!
Im still a bit scepticle about those legends though, i dont know why have heard no complaints.

LOL 2 Athlone
hehe

Man the first 2 components are ripping R1500 out of this guy who mentioned both the words reasonable and not killing him with prices in his post....
SO
No need for person to charge you the extra R500 for the x2 4200 when the x2 3800 is within 2% or 3% the performance and BOTH contain 512 L2 cache, along with that the mobo is way to overkillish, and can be cut down buy R1000 by going for a A8N board,oh and thats on salesPersons own site, and BTW you dont have to buy from this guy just 'cos he forces his way into your thread.
And BTW salesperson I suggest checking the advertisement link in you signature, because it doesnt work.

agreed about the mobo, although i did say that the deluxe was expensive.
I would still go for the 4200+ though, look at THG cpu charts, the 4200+ is noticably differant.

for those of you who dont know :
AthlonX2 3800+ = 2x athlon64 3200+
AthlonX2 4200+ = 2x athlon64 3500+

Ok,but thats your Opinion.Lemme guess he gets an extra 1 fps performance and 200 points in synthetic benches.....no need to goto tomshardware, btw, they're horribly biased.

Rather confident in making somebody pay an extra R500 for literally no REAL performance increase, good on ya.

Look man, theres a reason NOBODY buys the 4200,it's like buying a 3500 over a 3000,the chips are binned and no REAL performance gain is achieved untill you step to the 1MB L2 CACHE 4400 which is why everyone buys it,do you know what cache is?

unneccessary attitude.
Obviously the cache makes a huge difference, but as he said he doesnt want to spend too much and the 4400+ is lots more monies

Brick wall, anyways the hardware section has gone to a ball of poopy.

look fool, i and apparently a few other people have no idea what your problem is. Cant ever say something without being hostile, maybe he is frustrated:eek: .

ANiez bk to topic

The 4200+ is basicly a 3800+ with an additional 200Mhz per core.
There are slight performance gains(enough for me, apparantly not for ED).
If you got any overclockin skills your should be able to get the 3800+ up to 4200+ speeds no prob, google it
So if you got extra 500 bucks go for the 4200+

my 2c take it or leave it.

*awaits rude remark from ED

lol, person lover, dont think for a minute I care what your silly ass has to say, fool, apparently I gave off the opinion that I do care,my bad.

I've seen some of the junk you post, hardware misinformation etc....The fact that your a Person supporter doesnt make things better...I post in this forum to help ppl save money and build the odd system up,I'm not payed to be here, when bogus misinformation is given I will make a point of interjecting if I see fit.
Personally I dont care what you say,I've seen all I need to see, you're opinion is about as valuable to me as a packaged bird poop.....again I'm not here posting for my health and I can just as easily leave here, but I will make a point of setting silly remarks straight, especially those made by salesppl, not enthusiasts,extra-especially those who blindly insult ppl like JasonH and CO.

You would be supprised, the cache in Dual Core CPU's makes less of a difference now... compared to Single Core CPU's...

agreed. Its getting to a stage where people cannot post anything anymore for fear of getting flamed. not advice, comments, prices, nothing.

If someone asks about prices and i were a person like person who actually sells these things and knows whats going on then i would post prices as well.

Everyone needs to chill out for a second. Things are getting outta hand.
