is overclocking a gpu visible to manufacturer?

So as the title states, is it possible for the manufacturer to see if you have indeed overclocked your graphics card? I hear reinstalling software and setting back to stock clears all visibility...
 
Unless you actually damaged something on the card due to high heat there will be no evidence if you set all the settings to default again.
 
Sounds like an episode from Futurama.
Now you know your not supposed to overclock your bender unit.:D
 
If they really want to know it, they will be able to detect the above normal clock and store it somewhere on the card.
 
When you just overclock your card with something like MSI Afterburner, you're not modifying any firmware, so they won't be able to see that you overclocked your card.

When you've damaged your card due to too high voltage (which you'll have to do when you overclock), then they might be able to spot it.
 
The manufacturer can not only see the clock speeds you ran it at, they know which games you played and whether they were cracked. They can also check your browser cache and skim your credit card details.

So when the local pc store tells me they can, its all a scare tactic? Are they hoping for my admission to guilt? :D

Honestly, it would be trivial for a manufacturer to log the highest temperature and clock frequencies recorded on the card, in non-volatile memory. Whether they bother with it, I think is unlikely, but never say never!
