Mars Satellite Communicates At Up To 6Mbps

Sometime tonight the Mars Reconnassance Orbiter will enter Mars orbit. I was reading it's page at Wikipedia and came across this nugget:

Maximum transmission speed from Mars is projected to be as high as 6 Mbit/s, a rate ten times higher than previous Mars orbiters.

That's right folks, a satellite orbiting Mars, 80000000 km away when it's closest to Earth, will have up to 6 times the bandwidth (using satellite/wireless) than you can get from the Telkom exchange 3km from your house (using copper).

Granted the latency is 12 minutes (which I think beats IS on a bad day) but still the fact remains. 6Mpbs. From Mars. And I'm looking forward to getting 384kbps...
