I think we can all see whats happening here:

We've got the one idealistic side (which seems to to shrinking everyday) that wants open cheap access for africa, and the other side that sees an opportunity to make bucket loads of cash like uncle SAT3. Unfortunately money has a very powerful influence, especially in africa

Sounds very "Going postal" by terry pratchett.
Unfortunately the way this is gonna pan out is that were gonna have another SAT-3. It won't b pr'ed that way. But every1 in the know will know what it is.

I am actually struggling to understand all of this.
All everyone seems to know for sure is that the cable is coming, and confusion surrounds all the other 'minor' details like pricing, structure, who's who in the zoo, etc. It just seems a bit strange to me looking in from the outside at a multimillion rand project.

One thing is for sure though forumites, how the African states and their respective governments handle/structure this Eassy project will be a 'true barometer' of their commitment to uplifting the people and the continent as a whole.
The South African government is in the spotlight and has a golden opportunity to redress the wrongs.
Lets hope that their actions speak louder than their words.

If they are not going to be offering a substantial saving to the African people then they may as well cancel the project.

Don't be supprised if its just a little cheaper and nothin more.
