Tshwane shows the broadband way

You know you suck when a local municipality can deliver better services than you, the only telecoms provider is SA. Go Telkom!

One of the most exciting developments is the Rooiwal Broadband Village project where all the houses in this town have been furnished with a 4 Mbps broadband connection. These connections are 4 times faster than Telkom’s fastest DSL offering, and make use of Broadband over Power Line (BPL) technology.
I find it strange that none of these Rooiwallers have been on this forum boasting about their download speed.

Me wants part of it! Hope Centurion is seen as part of "East of Pretoria", and that very soon! :)

Sux 2 b in cpt :(

Except we got the ladies........and the beautiful views......Much better views nowadays of the stars also. No lights in cpt to dim the beautiful stars.

Hell we can't even decide on a mayor. So what's the chances that our little council can decide on a broadband plan like this.

Its a happy day whenever a municipality decides to stick it to telkom as it sticks them where it hurts the most - in their wallets. Its also money the municipality can now use were its desperately needed. Schools, hospitals, Mercedes dealers, police, etc.

I know - my foreign brain needs to keep these things straight but . . . where is Tshwane again?

haha would be funny if Capetown announces something like this, power lines can run 200mbps internet but not even make a light bulb shine :) hehe

propably where Telkom's ceo stay so he dont have to battle with telkom's crappy service :)

So, where again is Tshwane buying all this Internet bandwidth ?

... and as a Pretoria East resident they are really keeping this service a closely guarded secret ? Must be encrypted access only.

"in the East of Pretoria".....wonder where exactly that would be
Hi Luke7777

They will announce the area soon...it will be one neighborhood initially. I will try to get some additional information from Tshwane.

Not sure why you laugh? After all, the CT power lines are 100% under-utilised - pleanty of spare capacity for network traffic...
:D

Is this municipal broadband network going to have a price on it, and if so how much?

PS: Can't believe no-one on MyADSL doesn't live in this 'broadband village'. Maybe all MyADSL'ers should make a migration to this village :D
