Has anyone done some speed tests on the various networks? Vodacom seems to be crawling in Durban and CellC seems to be best. MTN is somewhere in between. Can anyone confirm my hunch?

Vodacom seems to have many switches between EDGE and 3G - this seems to eat away at battery. What Frequency does Vodacom run on - CellC is apparently 900 MHz that could be the reason why they better?

Any comments out there?

Add 8ta.
Price and speed beats the others hands down.

Yip - I think they are good - but hardly any 8ta 3G cover at my home. It drops signal for ages.

CellC is still the fastest in my opinion, but not the most stable. This is an opinion from many locations in JHB area.
8ta comes second, coverage matters.
MTN didn't try recently
Vodacom slow, but quite stable. It suffers at weekends.

CellC is the only one using 900MHz at this moment.

8ta vs Cell C. That's it. Vodacom is well mostly on Edge at home at me, and on my iphone, well I aint impressed. My wife has a fancy shiny bb 9900 from mtn, and well that's on edge too.

8ta however is 3g, and so is cell c, which is why we have a 3g wifi router that runs mostly on cell c, but occassionally on 8ta for big downloads, and they both work like a total charm.

I pulled my ipad update with 8ta, ie 800mb download about, in a nice cool 15 minutes on 3g. Was nice and decently quick
