Telkom forces Internet Solutions to halt ADSL signups

Useless

A monopoly with money in the (I dont wanna know), unable to upgrade a small portion of the network, things are looking bleek Telkom :p

Please tighten ur noose a little more, no actually allot.

Thanks

In a statement released on Tuesday they said that ‘the links between ourselves and Telkom are approaching a level whereby we would no longer be able to provide a reliable service should we continue adding new users to our ADSL network’
Based on some of the comments on the forum it seems they may have already passed this level.
However rather late than never

I wouldn't think it's a dirty tricks campaign as such against IS, that would require some planning lol.
Its just pure incompetence on Telkoms part.
*waits for Lulu's poorly thought out explanation/excuse*

Don't put it past them

Dirty tricks seems to be their strongest point - it certainly isn't consumer interest!

only 10 000 users...

that means the rest of the 100 000 odd are with telkom, i cant wait to see that number sink.

Sneeky honestly i think it's telkom doing their utmost to strangle the market.

We have seen it in so many places already that it comes as no suprise.
Telkom beating the isp's to death with the new capping policy and wholesale/retail prices being the same and then saying it's not their fault the isp's can't offer the same products that telkom does. It's the isp's fault.

By denying IS the upgrades telkom is in effect strangle IS into further submission.

Who can IS turn to in this situation?

Icasa? nope not their problem cause it's a peering link problem if i understand right.
DOC? ......sure.....six months later they will aknowledge the submission only.
oh wait. THe competition commision.

Beautiful and IS already made a submission to them. This actually goes rightly in favour of IS then cause they have more proof that telkom is strangling the market.

IS has 2 winning features:
1 - Uncapped Local.
2 - Fixed IP Address.

Now ... if teklom was to offer that as well ...
Thats exactly the problem - Telkom is useless and crap and don't feel like competing - so they disable them.

I am even more convinced than ever that Telkom are deliberately impeding IS. A file (180k) was sent to me as an email attachment from an IS account holder at 11:21 last night. It was delivered at 4:56 this morning.

Never mind the quicker and cheaper data transfer from Hong Kong to Cape Town, It's quicker from Ranburg to the USA to Joburg, than it is from Randburg to Joburg.

But you have to admit. The beauty of this situation is that our oh so wonderful Government and there oh so wonderful "Accelerated and Shared Growth Initiative (Asgisa)" is such a load of crock. I mean on 1 hand they saying lets open the market up and bring in competition to lower prices.

Then at the same token their brian child Telkom are kicking everyone in the gonads and telling them to **** off! You not taking our piece of the pie!
If there were any definition for hypocracy it should be this!!

Then to add more insult to injury you got a bunch of baboons like Lulu, Papi, Ivy, Naidoo 1 & Naidoo 2, etc... all running around showing everyone that they doing such a great job when they dont even know themselves wtf is going on!

I love our Country!

Dont forget uncle Roy :)

The problem I have is businesses will work with technologie till it falls apart. It like leaving something if it works to save money and squeese the last bit out of it... but when its not performing the one day then the whole system falls apart. Good example Eskom...

my 2 cents worth... they should have looked at the bandwitdth a long time ago.

What is concerning, is that IS are (claim to be?) Telkom;s second biggest client (after Vodacom).

Now, what happens if IS dump Telkom and move to the SNO later this year - surely SNOT is already canvassing IS?

Only Telkom can fck up to this level, and not expect reprissals.

Telkom give **** service to everybody why so their service to IS be any different?

My heart pumps custard for IS, they have 1GB/s of Int. bandwidth and they resell it to 10 000 users when the weather is good!

what kind of isp are they?

A 1Gbps connection, at a 30:1 contention, can house 30,000 1Mbps connections or 60,000 512Kbps connections.

For 10,000 users to be on the 1Gbps the contention would be 10:1 so not that bad at all.. :)
