[Johannesburg, 20 March 2006] - Telkom is hosting an international service and network operations conference to address issues in network management encountered by network operators.

Network operators from 19 countries are attending the five-day event, which started at the Sandton Convention Centre today. This is the first time the annual event is being hosted by an African country, says Telkom.

“This is a global conference that looks at challenges, solutions and best practices around the world in the network and service environment,” says Pierre Marais, Telkom managing executive for network infrastructure provisioning.

LOL guess this answers my question about being allowed to attend!

He says the sessions during the week are closed to the media but there might be a closing press briefing on Friday.

They're trying to keep the SA public out of this one (and stop us from making a show of them) and do their PR spin to the rest of the world - just like that recent BBC article where Telkom's Lulu stated how costs have come down by 70% (there's a news article link on the forums for this one)

We should protest outside their meeting venue!!!!!!!!!. This will should get media attention for sure! Tomorrow is a holiday anyways. People in the JHB area should go for it! W!zard, Debbie any contacts in the area? :D :D

Oh please do. Please cause some major embarassment for Telkom. It's the only thing they react to.
 
Id love it if a huge group started protesting outside! Imagine the press that would get :D
 
Telkom hosting a teleccomunications conference is akin to Hitler hosting a Human Rights conference.

Hmmm, no can do, am too far away.

But in meantime, an upper-management Telkom official reckons that they personally read the MyADSL forums *twice* a day, largely because of the great concern Telkom has in trying to understand the broadband customer's ADSL experience. So I will therefore assume that this same Telkom person is sooner or later going to read this comment.

I would thus like to give Telkom forewarning that I have every intention of being present at their 2006 AGM. I think this year I am going to pick a general 'theme' for the questions I want to pose to Telkom's Chair (and hopefully to the CEO too this year.... if he's allowed to speak this year, that is). The theme I am tending towards is:

"PR blunders that make Telkom look bad, possibly have negative effects on our shareprice, and generally make one embarrassed to publicly admit to being a Telkom shareholder"

The other theme I am mulling is:

"The blatant mistruths, deceptions, lies, and equivocations of the past year: Whoppers told to shareholders, the public and the media"

Telkom's input on my theme is welcomed.
 
'network managment'!? - hmmm - sounds like they wanna discuss shaping and capping.
