Which part of the "motivational speech" would be considered a con?
At exactly 10:14am on another forum via pm I was thanked for a thread I started in where I motivated this person and no money was exchanged for the "speech" and as far as I know, I have not gained anything from the "speech" except the fact that it make me feel good inside that someone did benefit from it.

yeah look if the guys good you feel fired up for a couple of days, but it doesn't last. Its like drinking a red bull before making a new years resolution.

I've only come across one legitimate motivational speaker: Dave Allen.
I think the OPer is referring to the professional MSers, the ones who get paid money for getting people fired up for a few hours by telling them things they already know.
Anybody can be a motivator, it takes a con artist to make money out of it.

If you can help a person make money and don't ask money for it will people even bother to listen to you? Does the thought of money crossing palms mean that something is legit?

Yip, I'm referring to professional motivational speakers who offer a service to the public at a cost but can't guarantee results.
you have to be the one to make the change.
Their service is limited to pointing you in the right direction.Nothing more.
Its like receiving a quotation from a company and then getting charged for it.

I once was invited to go see a motivational speaker, but I didn't have the motivation to go.
The company where my brother works had a MS there and he told them that "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink". My brother commented to the MS "that if you were any good you would have motivated the horse to drink".

By it's very nature motivation is fleeting. Staying motivated takes a bit of work if you ask me, so expecting someone to come in and do a 2hour session that will lead to lasting results is asking a bit much. Unfortunately there are very few companies willing to spring for more than a quick hit and run and even fewer MS's who have plans for ongoing motivational type work
