Goodmorning Friends,

Thank you for your interest in OpenWeb.

We are in fact accepting new signups for all our IS accounts. The halting of signups was only for the day, as IS managed to secure more bandwidth.

The 10GB - 192k VPN ADSL package basically gives you 10GB's of SAT3 bandwidth, that allows you to do anything your desire, for up to 10GB's, locally and internationally, at 192k speeds. After cap, you get an EXTRA 10GB's of local, full speed bandwidth to use at your own leisure.

We only have two of these accounts left, as stocks are extremely limited, due to this being an OpenWeb Premium account.

I hope it makes a little more sense.

Kind regards
MrBEEP

Do all OpenWeb accounts work like this ???.

No, this is our 1st account that works via a VPN and SAT3 international bandwidth.

If the beta goes successfully, we will be launching more accounts of this type.

Are you using IS or SAIX for the SAT3 part ???.

How does it work ???.

I have a 1MB/s DSL line ... so do I just reconfigure my router PPPoE login to connect to your domain and will my connection be throttled to 192K ???.

No P2P or bittorrent I presume ???.

If I remember correctly, p2p will be allowed.
I think it is something in the line of you use a normal local account, and when you need international bandwidth you log onto the VPN.
I'm not sure if the normal account is bundled with the rest though.

It is an all in one ADSL account. Your base ISDSL local account is included.

P2P, torrents etc is allowed for your 10GB's, and it all runs at 192k.

No offence or anything, it's a good product you guys have but cmon isn't it time to move out of the dark ages in SA and move up from 192K products :(...

We would love to move out of the dark ages, we are all for it, but with the prices Telkom charge us, it makes it really hard to switch on the light, so to speak.

However, the good news is, the 192k package is just a start. If this product works, we will be offering higher bandwidth packages as we go along.

Good to hear ISPs actually WANTING to offer better faster products..I actually feel you guys sorry with all the crap you probably have to put up with Telkom..
I say this YET again..if Telkom ADSL line charges are dropped I'd apply for an openweb account right now....

Thank you for the vote of confidence feo.

I speak for most of the ISP's respresented on this forum: things will be MUCH different if we did not have Telkom to deal with

I have my own very biased reasons why this country and in particular the telecoms industry is in such a mess but hey theres nothing I can do...If I was in Ivy's position there'd be a 180* turnarond in a month but these cakes in high positions just stall the job they're suppose to be doing...like that Canadian entrepreneur said it's possible for a complete turnaround in SA in 3 weeks if govt just had the foresight and if ISPs would just be willing to side-step ancient telecoms laws which don't make much sense in any case..

Only problem is those fat pipes running under the ocean - and the telkom ogre sitting at the gate. Until he is killed nothing substantive will happen - telkom have their hands on SA's throat right there!
