We're being treated unfairly: Telkom

Maybe that's because they have an unfair government sanctioned monopoly?

I'm playing the worlds smallest violin for them...
 
The Internet Service Provider’s Association (Ispa) agrees with Telkom, saying MTN and Vodacom should be declared major operators, as both have more than 35% of the South African mobile telecoms market and have control over essential services.

I agree with the ISPA that the mobile operators should be included in this, it is after all the area of growth (mobile) so they are only going to get bigger and the interconnect charges as quoted are 'out' by comparison.

As for Telkom's little hissy fit though

You never listened to the consumer or anyone else in this country for that matter, why the hell should they listen to you now.

very very interesting developments!

1. MTN and VODA are major operators - finished and klaar - cannot see how they can possibly argue otherwise
2. if ICASA are happy to hold these hearings now this must mean that they know from sources higher up in the food chain that the ECB is not going to be signed into law by el presidente anytime soon
3. as consumers our only hope lies with the rise of the VANS sector and this is where progressive ICASA councillors are placing the emphasis
4. the telecomms liberalisation process is going to spend the next 5-8 years in courts and become increasingly ugly
5. you only have to get so big before you start to act like telkom

and, as ever, the DoC is seriously fscking up by not making its announcements and getting the market moving

if anyone feels like doing some digging...:)

i have it on good authority that vodacom use mobile optics (i.e. telecomms over laser) or free space optics for some of their backhaul and between towers - this would be legal post 2005/02/01 but one has to wonder what they did with the 160 odd units they got 5 years ago prior to 2005/02/01....

there is so much more going down than meets the eye...

My exact sentiments - aaag shame poor telecos. :rolleyes: Now we must have a sympathetic ear for the telecos - yeah right! The man in the street has been treated unfairly for years with the telecoms prices of which interconnection has been a major factor. ICASA should go ahead and get the regulation of interconnection fees and major operators promulgated then fight the court cases afterwards, NOT before.

Can't we as the public show our backing and support for this move by ICASA. Flowers, faxes, etc?

Sadly though the DoC headhoncho's (read as Telkom's chamber maid and bus boy) wont stand for this type of action.
 
I would like to slap the person who made that comment. I am sure the 5billion profit makes them feel a little better. Bunch of wankers
 
When I read this, I got this mental image of Hitler surviving to stand trial for his crimes against humanity, and moaning how unfair and bias the judgement would be.
 
I have a suggestion for you guys going on about how evil Telkom is. Why not boycott Telkom and not use the Internet or Telephones or Cellphones (Some). That'll show them. :rolleyes:
