I bought an 8ta sim on Thursday evening and got the sim locked onto an 8ta network only (to test the internet speeds at home). Put R40 on, then the next day got R20, which is the 50% as promised. I'm also thinking of getting the 60gb / R1800 deal, and was also hoping to pay the R1200 and get the R600 free.
So I called 8ta and enquired (at 23:00 Friday evening). I asked if there's an upper limit on the 50% special, and mentioned R2000 as an example. It took a while to make them understand that I can top up R2000 by using internet banking
. She asked if I had received an sms to notify me of the deal, to which I said no - but a friend got one. She said that only people who'd received the sms are subject to the special 50% off.
Firstly - that seems odd as I'd received my 50% back when I first got my sim-card, and I didn't get an sms. Secondly - surely if someone gets notified via sms of a 50% deal, they're going to tell their friends who will also try and benefit from it. The notion of 'it only applies if you got the sms' is ridiculous unless it specifically states that in the sms.
I've phoned 8ta twice today (regarding this & their policy on contract termination) and both times I've got the run-around or an answer that seems made up on the spot. So here I am on the forums instead.
Anyway. I've topped up R100 this afternoon, and should I get the 50% back tomorrow then I'll be quite tempted to top up with R1200 and hope for the best. Will post back with any further developments & be keeping an eye on the thread for anyone else's experience.
