While sipping on bottled water has almost become something of a voguish statement, a survey has revealed that many South Africans are happy with the high quality water that comes straight from the tap.

The survey, conducted by the Water Research Commission (WRC) and South African Local Government Association (SALGA) between March and May 2011, investigated urban South Africans' perceptions of the quality of their water and the factors that influence perceptions.

I prefer tap water to bottled water.

Our water in Alberton is superb! :D

I'm lucky up near the Hillcrest area to have some of the best tasting tap water in S.A.

A more interesting question would be, do you think people who buy bottled water are pretentious farts?
Nope, not at all. It is their choice. I only buy flavoured bottled water every now and then since I get tired of Coke and Pepsi.

We lived right across waterworks in Kimberley, so each time something got fixed or changed our house was one of the first to get the nasties. Our one child spend a month in hospital due to a virus that she picked up in the water. It messed her up so bad that she had no immune system left and the slightest impurity/germ would land her in the hospital again.
I really though I was going to loose her at one stage.

Of course we did not know the cause until the doctor asked us a few questions and we put 2 and 2 together. The last time I collected my wife and child from hospital I immediately went and bought a water filtration system and that was the end of the hospital visits.

That being said, you can clearly see on the filter what the quality of the water is. In Kimberley our filter turned green and brown within a week, but here in Potch the filter stays clean (white) for a very, very long time. We rarely have to clean the filter out. Water quality here is really not bad, we just got into the habit of using the filter and that is all there is to it.

My mom only drinks bottled water, not to be ladida but because she donated her kidney to her sister a while back and can't risk any funny bugs in tap water. Unfortunately EC drinking water has not been that great of late.

I couldn't care less though. Mix it with oros and it's as good as it gets.

Gotta admit water in randburg is awesome :D. I cannot bring myself to pay for water when it is readily available and so yummy.

Perhaps on a long trip i will buy water but boy o boy nothing like a good suck on the tap before my morning shower :D.

Fourways is a disgusting area, it stinks, full of traffic and i have heard horror stories about the water. Sounds like the worst place to spend 3 bar on a place to stay.

Water in fourways smells and also is always white. I know you guys said its just oxygen or bubbles but I try stay away from tap water unless boiled
That's odd. All of Johannesburg is supplied by rand water? Even I (not in GP) get the good rand water stuff, good off the tap.

Nothing wrong with buying bottled water when not at home (on a trip, mall, etc)....but buying it for home use is dumb unless there is something really wrong with your tap water.

afaik, the water we get from our taps are regulated much better than the ones in bottles?

Can't say I've noticed that but then again it's not exactly a one-horse town these days.

I reckon a lot of it has to do with where they do maintenance on the pipes. Quality of water seems to go pear-shaped until all the crap is worked through.

I'm in fourways and the water is fine , the only time it goes white or milky is after a water cutoff when I'm sure they just nuke the pipes with a double or triple dose of chlorine

I sincerely believe the tap water in my area is FUBAR.
Always had the runs on and off.
Went to Robertson for a few days and stomach cleared up.
As soon as I got back and had water from home, the ****s flowed.
Experimenting with only drinking bottled still water and I'm right as rain again.

A more interesting question would be, do you think people who buy bottled water are pretentious farts?

There are exceptions, but imo most of them are.

Most of the time I drink my water from the tap and nothing has happened to me. But I still find people that can't believe I drink water from the tap.
