The reserved bus/taxi lane on N2 going into CT...

How does this process work when it comes to overtaking? So the right hand lane is reserved...and here I am stuck in the middle. Can I go into the reserved bus lane to overtake a car in the middle lane, or must I go into the left lane to get past. Latter makes no sense...cos rule of the road is keep left pass right.

Nervous to just overtake in the reserved lane due to all the cameras on the highway. So can anyone explain the overtaking procedure here? Am I allowed to overtake a car by going into the bus lane from the middle lane?
 
1st step get off your phone on the highway

and 2nd those lanes have times ...up until 9am i think and between around 4 and 6 in the afternoon

never been on that road in a while

but you can use the bus lane outside of those hours
 
jip, the lane is only reserved for the designated times as shown on the overhead road signs. BUT the taxis think it is reserved for them ALLLLL day long and they often crawl along there in the middle of the day at 90 km/h...!! Damn annoying since they don't move into the left lane!
 
oh and I think I read somewhere that the camera system is offline on the N2 for most of the bit into Cape Town, although I might be wrong.
 
Just treat it like a normal 2 lane Highway and pretend that lane is'nt there when Taxi/Bus only rules is in Effect.
The rule IS keep left pass right, so as a regular vehicle - moving into that lane when Taxi/Bus rules are in effect means you're
doing something illegal...

That's the way it's done in every other country in the world where this is implemented... it's not confusing at all.
 
overtaking in that bus lane can be quite dangerous . Seen some bad accidents there, those buses and taxi's fly down that lane.
 
I know ALL about it, it used to be exactly like that on the London Freeways till the UK Government launched an extensive education campaign on Print and Visual Media... we can only dream about our government being as proactive as that.

Lol, but the Policemen can see the Numberplate when he sees and gives you the ticket...

BTW... riding up dead against a truck works amazingly well with the new Speed over distance cameras.
 
After 9 all can use it. No other reserved time after that. Becomes a 'fast' lane after that. But its a taxi cruise lane as well during the day..
