Med schemes can refuse to pay for super drugs

Like I've been saying. Your cost of medication per month minus the cost of your medical aid. If it's a negative number, you'd be better off without a medical aid as they're not aiding you in anything you cannot pay for yourself

To me medical aid is catastrophic event insurance. If everyone thought like this there would be no medical aid. Where would the money come from if everyone claimed more than they put in?

You would not be saying that if you were being treated for cancer.

I have been treated with chemotherapy as well as radiotherapy, and I was in hospital several times as well. I would not have been able to afford the R12K+ per bag of Mabthera nor any of the other chemo drugs and hospital expenses.

You don't even have to be sick to rack up a huge hospital bill, all it takes is a idiot on the road the wipe you out, and if you don't have a decent medical aid scheme to help pay the bills you would be better off not surviving such an accident.

Until you get into a car accident and get a million rand ICU bill. Good luck with that.

Not having medical aid is just stupid.
 
I had 1 1/2 days in hospital and 11 minutes of surgery with a resulting wound of 7.5cm x 4 cm. No medical aid at the time and it cost me R 27,000.

I have medical aid now which costs me far less than that per year, so in my opinion medical aid is a necessity because our state hospitals are so pathetically useless.

IMHO it is Medical Savings Accounts (MSA) that are a deception used by the medical aid companies to beguile people into taking a scheme option that costs much more per month than they really need (provided that they are capable of budgetting for minor unexpected expenses such as non-chronic prescriptions and over the counter medication).

Until you get above the threshold and they start paying for day to day stuff out of the scheme... Including dentistry ...
